Function Description
The Air to Air Heat Exchanger with DX Coil Unit is designed to provide air conditioning (cooling and heating) and ventilation for commercial spaces. It can operate as a standalone unit or be integrated into a system linked with other air conditioners. The unit can also be equipped with a humidifier for models like MMD-VNK502HEXE, MMD-VNK802HEXE, and MMD-VNK1002HEXE.
The system supports various configurations, including a standalone Air to Air Heat Exchanger with DX Coil Unit system, a system linked with air conditioners, and central control systems that manage both air conditioners and the heat exchanger units. In central control systems, the unit can be controlled separately or together with air conditioners.
The unit's primary function is to exchange heat between indoor and outdoor air, and in heat exchange mode, it adjusts the temperature and humidity of the outdoor air to be closer to indoor conditions before supplying it. An automatic mode switches between heat exchange and bypass mode based on the operation mode (cooling, heating, dry, ventilation), set temperature, and indoor/outdoor thermo sensor information. Bypass mode, primarily for spring and summer, directly brings outdoor air into the room.
A "nighttime heat purge" function is available to reduce the room's air conditioning load in the morning during summer. This function exhausts warm indoor air in bypass mode when the air conditioner is stopped at night. It activates under specific temperature conditions (indoor temperature 3°C or more higher than outdoor, and 2°C or more higher than the set temperature) and pauses or stops if conditions change.

The unit operates within specific outdoor and room temperature/humidity ranges for cooling and heating. For cooling, the outdoor temperature range is -5°C to +43°C, room temperature +21°C to +32°C, and room humidity 80% or less. For heating, the outdoor temperature range is -15°C to +21°C, and room temperature +28°C or less. Operating outside these conditions may activate protective devices.
Usage Features
The unit is controlled via a remote controller (NRC-01HE).
- Basic Operation: Turn the unit ON/OFF, select operation mode (Heat, Dry/Dehumidify, Cool, Fan), and adjust the set temperature using the TEMP. buttons.
- Fan Speed: Select ventilation fan speed (High, Medium, Low, Auto) using the FAN button. The remote controller also supports air volume imbalance settings ([SA>EA] for supply air larger than exhaust, [SA<EA] for exhaust air larger than supply) to reduce humidity/smells or prevent outflow of smells/bacteria.
- Ventilation Mode: Choose between "Automatic mode" and "Heat exchange mode" using the VENT button.
- Timer Operation: Set OFF timer (stops after a specified period), Repeat-OFF timer (stops every time after a specified period), or ON timer (starts after a specified period). The timer can be set for up to 168 hours (7 days).
- Power Saving Mode: Initiate power saving mode using the SAVE button.
- Separate Operation (for systems linked with air conditioners): The Air to Air Heat Exchanger with DX Coil Unit can be started or stopped independently from linked air conditioners by pressing the VENT button.
- Display Section: The remote controller's LCD displays current settings, operation mode, fan speed, temperature, timer status, error indicators, filter reminders, and other relevant information.
- Protective Devices: The unit has protective devices (e.g., high-pressure switch) that automatically stop operation if excessive load is applied or an error occurs. The operation lamp blinks, and an error code is displayed on the remote controller.
- Power Failure: In case of a power failure, all operations stop. To resume, press the ON/OFF button.
- 3-minute Protection: The outdoor unit will not operate for approximately 3 minutes after restarting or turning on the power switch to protect the system.
- Defrosting during Heating: If frost forms on the outdoor unit during heating, defrosting is automatically performed for 2-10 minutes to maintain heating effect.
- Fan Rotation of Stopped Indoor Unit: In systems with multiple indoor units, fans on stand-by units may rotate for several minutes hourly to protect the machines.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity.
- Filter Maintenance: The remote controller indicates when the filter needs cleaning with a "FILTER" icon. After cleaning, press the FILTER RESET button to clear the indication.
- Heat Exchange Element: A smell may be emitted from the heat transfer element during initial use, which is normal.
- Humidifier Element (for models with humidifiers): The humidifier element needs periodic replacement, with cycles varying based on water hardness (e.g., every 5 years for 25 mg/L, every 3 years for 50 mg/L, every 2 years for 100 mg/L). The humidifying performance deteriorates as impurities accumulate.
- Humidifier Drying Operation: After the humidifying season or if the unit is not used for a long period, a drying operation (in ventilation mode for over 24 hours) must be performed to prevent residual water from rotting and emitting unpleasant odors.
- Cleaning Remote Controller: Use a dry cloth to wipe the remote controller. Avoid damp cloths, chemically-treated dusters, benzine, thinner, polishing powder, or similar solvents, as these can damage or deform the plastic surface.
Safety Precautions:
The manual emphasizes that installation, maintenance, repair, and removal must be performed by a qualified installer or service person. It warns against electrical shock, injury from moving parts or hot surfaces, and the dangers of refrigerant leaks.
