Optimal Shifting
Be light on the throttle and follow the instructions of
the Gear Shift Indicator (GSI).
1. Show how more or less throttle activates/deactivates
the GSI.
2. Demonstrate the 1.4 D-4D 6M/Ts surprising torque
at 50km/h in 4th gear. Reach 60km/h and change
up to 5th. Feel the ample torque to maintain cruising
speed. Don’t use too much throttle as the GSI would
tell you to shift down.
3. Demonstrate smooth acceleration between 90 and
120km/h in 5th gear when joining a motorway. At
40-50% throttle, show low instant fuel consumption
under acceleration in 6th. Point out low NVH.
4. On faster roads within urban areas but limited to
70km/h, show how usable 6th gear is by changing up
at 60km/h. The car will cruise smoothly.
Dynamic
Must Do Demos
Seamless Stop & Start
1. The car needs to be warmed up and preferably with
AC o. Demonstrate how smooth the stop is and how
quick and seamless the re-start.
2. Quick restart: let the Stop & Start System switch o
the engine, wait, get customers attention, clutch -
immediately in gear and depart.
3. Seamless re-start: Balance a credit-card on the gear
lever, press the clutch to re-start, and show how card
does not even move.
Parking Made Simple
To demonstrate Simple Intelligent Parking Assist (SIPA)
select a quiet, safe street where parallel parking is
allowed. A good time to do this during the test drive is just
before you invite your customer to take the drivers seat.
1. As you drive down the street looking for a parking
spot, turn Simple Intelligent Parking Assist on. Its
sonar will automatically detect suitable parking spaces.
Explain to the customer that this system does not rely
on cameras, but uses sonars and sensors instead.
2. When a suitable target parking spot is agreed, the
system will inform you when to stop. As you stop
Corolla and shift to reverse, highlight the fact that
the system assists parking in very tight spots. All you
need is the length of New Corolla +90cm, as opposed
to the length of the vehicle +2m on other systems.
3. Explain that while New Corolla begins reversing, the
system automatically steers, while you operate the
brakes and accelerator. Visual and sound warnings
assist you in shifting between reverse and drive.
4. The assistance is complete when the vehicle is parked
parallel to curb.
