Overview

This document provides a quick reference guide for programming the Toyota 7HBW23 Lift Truck, detailing its display, access to special truck modes, hour meter readings, error code history, programming truck parameters, software/hardware versions, and service key functions.

The lift truck features a display with a numerical field (A) for showing values, an hour meter indicator (B), a parameter control icon (C), a battery indicator (D), and an error indicator (E). These indicators help users understand the current status and operational mode of the truck.

To access special truck modes, users can press and hold the horn button while turning on the key. Alternatively, an Operator-Specific PIN Code can be entered, followed by pressing the green ON button. The factory default PIN is 1. While holding the horn button, the display will scroll through various modes: H (Hour Meter Readings), E (Error Codes), P (Parameters), and Pn (Software/Hardware Versions). Releasing the horn button when the desired mode is displayed allows access to that specific function.

Hour Meter Readings:

When "H" is shown on the display and the Hour Meter icon is illuminated, users can view different hour meter functions by rotating the thumb lever. These functions include:

  • A = Key Switch Hours: Total hours the key switch has been in the ON position.
  • B = Activity Hours: Hours accumulated during drive, lift, and lower operations.
  • C = Drive Motor Hours: Hours the drive motor has been active.
  • D = Pump Motor Hours: Hours the pump motor has been active.
  • E = Service Reminder Meter: A meter that tracks hours for service intervals.

To select a specific hour meter reading, release the thumb lever when the desired function is displayed. The corresponding reading will then appear. To exit the hour meter mode, press the red OFF button.

Error Code History:

After entering the Special Truck Mode, hold the horn button until "E" (Error Codes) appears on the display and the wrench icon illuminates. The thumb control can then be used to scroll forward or backward through the Error Code History. Releasing the thumb lever when an error code number (1 through 50) appears will first show the error code, followed by the hour meter reading when the error occurred. Rotating the thumb lever again will display the next error code and its corresponding hour meter reading. To exit this mode, press the red OFF button. It's important to note that error codes are categorized as C (Caution) and E (Error). Caution codes are not stored in memory as they are temporary warnings.

Programming Truck Parameters:

To program truck parameters, access the Special Truck Mode as described previously. Release the horn button when "P" (Parameters) appears on the display and the parameter control icon is illuminated. The thumb lever allows users to scroll up or down to view or change specific parameters. Releasing the lever when the desired parameter is shown will display its current setting.

The available parameters include:

  • 01 Max speed, slow mode: Adjusts the maximum speed in slow mode, ranging from 10% (low speed) to 40% (full speed). The default is 20%.
  • 02 Max speed, fast mode: Adjusts the maximum speed in fast mode, ranging from 70% (low speed) to 98% (full speed). The default is 94%.
  • 03 Acceleration: Controls the acceleration rate, from 30% (low acceleration) to 90% (full acceleration). The default is 80%.
  • 04 Deceleration: Defines the motor speed reduction force when the thumb control returns to the neutral position, ranging from 40% (low reduction force) to 90% (full reduction force). The default is 65%.
  • 05 Truck off delay (keypad only): Sets the time (in minutes) until the truck powers off when idle and the brake is applied. This ranges from 0 to 20 minutes. The default is 0.

To adjust a selected parameter, press the horn button once; the parameter symbol on the display will flash. Rotate the thumb lever to the desired setting and press the horn button to confirm the change. All parameter changes are finalized by pressing the red OFF button. To exit Parameter mode, simply press the red OFF button. Additional "Service Parameters" are available but require a Service Key and are detailed in the 7HBW23 Service Manual.

Software / Hardware Versions:

Access the Special Truck Mode and continue holding the horn button until "Pn" appears on the display. Release the horn button, then use the thumb lever to scroll through:

  • HPn = Hardware Part Number: Displays the part number of the hardware.
  • HSn = Hardware Serial Number: Displays the serial number of the hardware. To exit this section, press the red OFF button on the keypad.

Additional Information:

The 7HBW23 can also display other operational data, such as battery voltage at the ETAC (Electronic Tiller Arm Card), motor armature and field current, and inputs from various switches. More detailed information can be found in the 7HBW23 Service Manual.

Service Key:

To use the Service Key, connect it to point J41 and press the green ON key to start the lift truck. The battery status should then be displayed, and the battery icon will remain illuminated. Pressing the horn button allows toggling between various display modes, which include:

  • B (Flashing): Speed reference value sent to the power amplifier.
  • C (Flashing): Digital inputs/outputs from the power amplifier and ETAC. This includes details from "Digital Inputs/Outputs from Power Amplifier."
  • BC (Flashing): Battery voltage (V) at ETAC.
  • D (Flashing): Armature current (A).
  • BD (Flashing): Field current (A).
  • CD (Flashing): Armature PWM in %.
  • BCD (Flashing): Status of the power amplifier, with details found in "Typical Statuses of Power Amplifier" on page 5-23 of the manual.
  • E (Flashing): Field resistance (Ohms), used for thermal cutback.

When multiple letters are shown in the chart, their corresponding icons will be illuminated on the display.

Power Amplifier Inputs:

The display also shows inputs to the power amplifier, represented by segments on the digital display. These inputs include:

  • A: Not specified.
  • B: Input (J5-14): Arm Angle B.
  • C: Input (J5-15): Lift limit.
  • D: Input (J5-12): Arm Angle A.
  • E: Input (J5-2): Lower valve (illuminated if the valve is present but not powered).
  • F: Not specified.
  • G: Input (J5-5): Brake (illuminated if the brake is present but not released).
  • DP: Not specified.

Power Amplifier Outputs:

Similarly, the display indicates outputs from the power amplifier:

  • B: Not specified.
  • C: Output (J5-2): Lower valve.
  • D: Not specified.
  • E: Output (J5-4): Main contactor interlock.
  • F: Output (J5-7): Horn.
  • G: Output (J5-5): Brake.
  • DP: Output (J5-6): Pump contactor.

ETAC (Electronic Tiller Arm Card) Inputs:

The digital input from ETAC control sensors is also displayed, with specific segments representing:

  • A: Not specified.
  • B: Not specified.
  • C: Not specified.
  • D: ETAC input: lift forks.
  • E: ETAC input: lower forks.
  • F: (not used).
