Toyota RAV4 2000 - How to Start the Traction Motor

You must push in the key to turn it from
"ACC" to the "LOCK" position.
When starting the traction motor, the key
may seem stuck at the "LOCK" position.
To free it, first be sure the key is pushed
all the way in, and then rock the steering
wheel slightly while turning the key gent-
ly.
CAUTION
Never remove the key when the ve-
hicle is moving, as this will lock the
steering wheel and result in loss of
steering control.
NOTICE
Do not leave the key in the "ON"
position. The auxiliary battery will
discharge and the traction motor
could be damaged.
1. Make sure the charge coupler is not
connected.
If the charge coupler is connected when
the motor switch is turned to "START",
the traction motor is not ready to start.
Make sure the charging is finished and
disconnect the charge coupler.
2. Make sure the parking brake has been
applied.
3. Make sure the selector lever is in the
"P" position.
