WhenNMEA‐0183outputisenabled,asubsetofNMEA‐0183messagescanbeoutputtoexternal
instrumentsandequipmentconnectedtothereceiverserialports.TheseNMEA‐0183messageslet
externaldevicesuseselecteddatacollectedorcomputedbytheGNSSreceiver.
AllmessagesconformtotheNMEA‐0183version
3.01format.Allbeginwith$andendwitha
carriagereturnandalinefeed.Datafieldsfollowcomma(,)delimitersandarevariableinlength.
Nullfieldsstillfollowcomma(,)delimiters,butcontainnoinformation.
Anasterisk(*)delimiterandchecksumvaluefollowthelastfieldof
datacontainedinanNMEA‐
0183message.Thechecksumisthe8‐bitexclusiveofallcharactersinthemessage,includingthe
commasbetweenfields,butnotincludingthe$andasteriskdelimiters.Thehexadecimalresultis
convertedtotwoASCIIcharacters(0–9,A–F).Themostsignificantcharacterappearsfirst.
