Overview

This document is the owner's manual for the Tripp Lite B125-101-60-IR HDMI + IR over Dual Cat5/Cat6 Extender Kit.

Function Description

The Tripp Lite B125-101-60-IR extender kit is designed to extend HDMI and IR signals over long distances using dual Cat5/Cat6 cabling. It allows users to place an HDMI source (like a Blu-ray player) up to 150 feet away from a display while maintaining high-quality video and audio, and also provides infrared (IR) control of the source device from the display location. The kit includes both a transmitter and a receiver unit, along with necessary IR cables and an external power supply.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Video Resolution: Supports 1920 x 1080 (1080p) at 60Hz.
  • Extension Distance: Extends signals up to 150 ft. (45.72 m) using Cat5/Cat6 cabling.
  • Cabling Requirement: Requires 24 AWG solid wire Cat5e/6 cable for maximum distance and performance. Stranded wire or higher gauge cable will result in shorter extension distances. Tripp Lite N202-Series Cat6 cables are recommended.
  • Audio Support: Supports 7.1 Channel Surround Sound, DTS-HD, and Dolby® TrueHD audio.
  • Compatibility: HDCP and 3D compatible.
  • EDID: Supports EDID passthrough.
  • Power Supply: External power supply (Input: 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 0.5A; Output: 9V, 1A) can be connected to either the transmitter or receiver unit.
  • IR Control: Includes IR-TX (transmitter) and IR-RX (receiver) cables for remote control functionality.
  • Plug-and-Play: No software required for operation.

Usage Features

  • Extended HDMI and IR Control: The primary feature is the ability to extend HDMI video and audio signals, along with IR remote control signals, over a significant distance using cost-effective Cat5e/6 cables. This is ideal for home theater setups, digital signage, or educational environments where the source device needs to be located away from the display.
  • Remote Control of Source: The included IR-TX and IR-RX cables enable users to control the HDMI source device (e.g., Blu-ray player, cable box) from the location of the extended monitor using its original remote control. The IR-TX cable transmits the IR signal to the source device, while the IR-RX cable receives the IR signal from the remote control at the display end.
  • Flexible Powering: The external power supply can be connected to either the transmitter or the receiver unit, offering flexibility in installation depending on power outlet availability at either end.
  • Built-in Equalization Control: The receiver unit features a built-in equalization control, which can be adjusted using the included screwdriver to fine-tune the video image quality, especially over longer cable runs. This helps compensate for signal degradation and ensures a clear display.
  • EDID Passthrough: The kit supports EDID passthrough, ensuring that the display's optimal resolution and refresh rate information is communicated correctly to the source device for proper video output.
  • Simple Installation: The system is plug-and-play, requiring no software installation. The installation process involves connecting the HDMI source to the transmitter, the display to the receiver, and then linking the transmitter and receiver with two Cat5e/6 cables. IR cables are connected to their respective ports.
  • Status Indicators: Green LEDs on both units indicate power reception, and an orange LED on the receiver unit illuminates to confirm a successful Cat5e/6 connection with the transmitter. An orange LED on the transmitter indicates it is receiving a signal from the source.

Maintenance Features

  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting section to address common issues such as no image display, poor image quality, or lack of IR control. This includes checks for power connections, cable types, cable integrity, resolution settings, and proper port connections.
  • Cabling Best Practices: Emphasizes the importance of using 24 AWG solid-wire UTP Cat5e/6 cables for optimal performance and distance, and advises against using patch panels or other intermediate devices between the transmitter and receiver to prevent signal degradation.
  • Environmental Considerations: Suggests ensuring that the transmitter and receiver units are not located in areas exposed to elevated temperatures to prevent overheating and ensure proper function.
  • Warranty Information: The product comes with a 1-year limited warranty, covering defects in materials and workmanship. Tripp Lite offers repair or replacement services for defective products, requiring a Returned Material Authorization (RMA) number.
  • Product Registration: Users are encouraged to register their product online for quicker service and a chance to win a free Tripp Lite product, enhancing post-purchase support.
