Breaking-in takes 3-4 days. Gradual heating with increasing wood amounts over three days.
Ashes must be placed in a metal container with a tight lid and stored on a noncombustible floor away from materials.
Creosote forms from slow burning and can cause chimney fires. Regular inspection and cleaning are vital.
Clean cold fireplace with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Use soapstone cleaner for stubborn stains.
Airflow keeps glass clean. Use ash on a damp paper towel for soot, then wipe clean with damp paper.
Check ventilation, open doors/windows, open controls, check for blockages, contact service if issues persist.
Close air controls, close damper, keep door shut, contact fire department, do not use water, have chimney checked.
