The Ultrak 499 is a multi-functional stopwatch designed for precise timing, data recording, and analysis, suitable for various training programs and races. It integrates chronograph, timer, and clock functionalities, along with optional printing and data upload capabilities.

Function Description

The Ultrak 499 primarily functions as a chronograph, capable of recording up to 2000 memories. It offers segregated memory, allowing users to store LAP times for different races independently. The display can be configured to show either LAP/SPLIT or LAP/SPEED, providing flexibility based on the user's needs. A key feature is the automatic release of LAP time after 10 seconds, enabling continuous progress monitoring during a race. For data analysis, the device can display average and best lap times. The Ultrak 499 also supports data output, allowing recorded information to be printed via an optional printer or uploaded to a computer using an optional upload cable and software.

Beyond its chronograph capabilities, the device includes a dual timer function. These timers can be set to run one after another, making them ideal for structured training programs. If only the first timer is set, it operates as a standard countdown timer.

The Ultrak 499 also incorporates a clock function, displaying hour, minute, seconds, month, date, and day. It includes an alarm feature and offers user-selectable 12/24 hour and month/date or date/month display formats. The calendar automatically adjusts for weekdays, odd and even months, and leap years up to 2089.

Usage Features

Chronograph Operation:

To enter chronograph mode, press button C. Press A to start timing. Button B is used to record LAP times. The display shows the LAP time (top row), SPLIT time (middle row), and running total time (lower row). After 10 seconds, the display automatically reverts to showing running LAP and SPLIT times. Pressing A again stops the stopwatch. To reset for a new race, press B. The top left corner displays the remaining memory for further races. When recalling data, press D to view RACE RECORDS, which show the date of the race and a unique identifier (e.g., MCH-001 for LAP/SPLIT mode or MSP for SPEED mode). Pressing B navigates through different RACE RECORDS, and D recalls LAP times within a selected record. The device can display average and best LAP times by repeatedly pressing D.

SPEED Mode:

Before starting a race in chronograph mode (e.g., from the state shown in Fig.7), press and hold B for 2 seconds to enter SPEED SET mode. The lowest row's thousandth digit of distance will flash. Use A to set the digit and B to select the next digit. The maximum distance setting is 9999.999. After setting the distance, press B again to set the TIME unit (HR, MIN, or SEC) using button A. Press C to return to SPEED MODE. In SPEED mode, A starts the timing, and B records LAP times and corresponding speeds. The speed is calculated based on the set distance and time unit. For example, if distance is 200 meters and time unit is seconds, a LAP time of 17.09 seconds results in a speed of 11.70 m/sec. Recall operations in SPEED mode are similar to LAP/SPLIT mode.

BASE 3 STROKE/FREQ:

If the distance is set to 180 and the time unit to seconds, the speed reading for 3 strokes will indicate the number of strokes per minute.

Memory Management:

When all 2000 memories are used, the 4-digit LAP counter at the top left corner will blink. Further LAP times will not be recorded until memories are cleared. Attempting to start a race with no memory left will result in three short beeps. To clear memories, when displaying RACE RECORDS, press and hold A. Releasing A before "ED" appears will not clear memories. Continuously holding A will clear all race memories, displaying "ALL CLEARED" and returning to the initial chronograph display (Fig.2).

Timer Operation:

Press C until the stopwatch enters TIMER mode. The display shows the 1st timer (top row) and 2nd timer (middle row). Press and hold B for 2 seconds to enter SET TIMER mode. The hour digit of the 1st timer will blink. Use A to set the desired hour, then B to move to minutes and set with A. Repeat for the 2nd timer. Press C at any point to complete the setting. Press A to start the countdown. When the 1st timer reaches zero, it gives 4 beeps, and the 2nd timer starts. When the 2nd timer reaches zero, it gives 2 beeps, and the lowest row's 4-digit counter advances by 1. Pressing A during countdown stops it. If only the 1st timer is set, it functions as a single countdown timer, giving 5 sets of 4 beeps when time is up, and the counter advances by 1.

Clock Operation:

Press C to enter TIME mode. Press and hold B to enter TIME SET mode, with the AL HOUR blinking. Use A to set the AL HOUR, then B to select other digits (AL MIN, AL OFF/ON, YEAR, MONTH, DATE, 12/24HR selection, HOUR, MIN, SEC) and A to set them. Press C to complete the setting. The calendar automatically adjusts for weekdays and leap years up to 2089. Press D in TIME mode to arm or disarm the alarm. An alarm indicator will turn on when armed, and the alarm will sound at the preset time.

Print Mode (with optional printer):

Press C to enter PRINT ALL mode. Press A to print all recorded memories. An indicator moves left-to-right during printing, and "PRINT END" is displayed when complete. Pressing B in PRINT ALL mode enters PRINT RACE mode, allowing selection of a specific race to print using B, then A to print. Pressing C at any time stops printing. If the chronograph is running or stopped but not reset, printing is not possible, and "PRINT 0" is displayed.

Upload Mode (with optional upload cable and software):

From PRINT ALL mode (Fig. 20), press D once to enter UPLOAD MODE. Press A to upload all recorded memories to a connected computer. An indicator moves left-to-right during upload, and "UPLOAD END" is displayed upon completion. Press D to return to PRINT MODE. Pressing B in UPLOAD ALL mode enters UPLOAD RACE mode, allowing selection of a specific race to upload using B, then A to upload. Pressing C at any time stops the upload. If the chronograph is running or stopped but not reset, uploading is not possible, and "UPLOAD 0" is displayed.

Maintenance Features

Water-Resistance:

The stopwatch is designed to withstand accidental contact with water (splashes, rain) but is not intended for underwater use. Do not operate buttons when the stopwatch is wet.

Temperature:

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or very high temperatures, as this can blacken the display. Also, avoid very low temperatures, which may cause slight time loss/gain or slow digit changes. The display will return to normal when the stopwatch reaches normal temperature.

Shocks:

Handle with care to prevent dropping or hitting against hard surfaces, which can cause mechanical damage.

Static Electricity:

Strong static electricity can affect the integrated circuit and potentially cause permanent damage. Be cautious around TV screens and synthetic clothing in dry weather.

Magnetism:

The device is not affected by magnetism.

Chemicals:

Do not expose the stopwatch to solvents like gasoline, alcohol, cosmetic sprays, cleaners, or paints, as these can cause damage.

Battery Change:

When the battery low indicator lights up (Fig.25), replacement is necessary.

Unscrew and remove the back cover.
Unscrew the battery contact.
Replace with a fresh CR2032 Lithium battery or equivalent.
Ensure the triangular contact is in the triangular slot under the battery before insertion.
Use a small metal tool (tweezers or screwdriver) to momentarily short circuit the AC pad next to the battery.
Re-screw the back cover.

Printer Battery Insertion (Optional Printer 499-P):

With the POWER SWITCH in OFF, press and slide down the battery cover.
Insert 4 AA size batteries, observing correct polarities.
Slide up the battery cover until it clicks closed.

Always use batteries from the same manufacturer and replace all at once.
Remove batteries if the printer will not be used for a long time.

Printer Paper Insertion (Optional Printer 499-P):

Open the paper cover.
Cut the end of the thermal paper roll straight.
Turn on the printer.
Insert the paper end into the paper insertion slot correctly (as shown in Fig.27).
Keep pressing the PAPER ADVANCING SWITCH until 2-3 cm of paper is out.
Place the paper roll in the compartment and close the cover.

Never pull paper in reverse, as this can damage the printer.
To replace paper, tear off the current paper and press the PAPER ADVANCING SWITCH until all remaining paper is out.
Avoid touching the paper on the right side to prevent poor printing.
Store paper rolls in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Connection to Printer:

With the printer power off, insert both plugs of the connecting cord into the printer and stopwatch jacks. Ensure plugs are fully inserted.
After use, turn off the printer, remove the plugs, and insert the rubber cap into the stopwatch jack to protect it from dust and moisture.

General Remarks:

Do not pull out paper when the printer is not operating.
Do not print if there is no paper.
Keep the printer away from high moisture or dusty environments.
Avoid subjecting the printer to violent shocks.
Do not place the printer under direct sunlight or near high temperatures, as this can deform or damage the case.
Do not wipe the case with chemical-moisturized cloths, as this can discolor or deteriorate the printer.
Keep the jack away from moisture.
Turn off the printer power switch when not in use to conserve battery.
Replace printer batteries when printing slows down, becomes poor/light/messy, paper doesn't advance normally, or printing fails.
