Overview

The Uni-ram UG110 series spray gun cleaner is an automatic system designed for cleaning spray guns and cups, primarily for automotive paint applications. The series includes models UG110, UG110V, and UG110VP, with the UG110V and UG110VP models featuring additional components like a fume extractor and a venturi switch.

Function Description

The core function of the UG110 series is to automatically clean spray guns and cups using a solvent. The system operates by circulating solvent through jets within a wash tank, effectively removing paint residues from the equipment. The cleaning process is initiated by a timer, which typically runs for about 60 seconds. The UG110V and UG110VP models incorporate a fume extractor to manage solvent vapors, enhancing safety and environmental compliance. The UG110VP model specifically includes a rotating spray jet for cleaning the inside of paint pots.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Air Supply Pressure: The machine requires an air supply pressure of at least 85 PSI. An internal air pressure regulator limits the air pressure to precisely 85 PSI to prevent damage to the diaphragm pump.
  • Solvent Pail Capacity: The system is designed to use a 5-gallon (19 L) pail of solvent.
  • Cleaning Cycle Time: An automatic wash timer controls the cleaning cycle, which lasts approximately 60 seconds.
  • Diaphragm Pump Warranty: The diaphragm pump, a critical component, comes with a 2-year replacement warranty.
  • Grounding: Two ground wires are provided for safety to discharge static electricity. Both must be securely connected before operation.
  • Air Supply Quality: The air supply must be clean and dry, free from contaminants such as water, dust, rust, tar, and grease. An Airline Filter (not supplied) is recommended.

Usage Features

  • Pre-Clean Procedure: Before automatic cleaning, users must disconnect the spray gun from the air hose, pour paint from the cup into a 5-gallon pail for disposal, and rinse the cup with solvent.
  • Spray Gun and Cup Placement: Spray guns are placed facing corner jets, with placement varying based on the type of gun. Cups are placed onto low spray jets and cup holders.
  • Nozzle Adapters: The system includes various nozzle adapters (e.g., 110-430 for conventional systems, 110-430PPS for disposable cup or conventional systems) to accommodate different spray gun types. Adapter #780-3530 is specifically installed for disposable cup systems.
  • Trigger Lock Spring: A trigger lock spring is used to hold the spray gun's trigger in the open position during cleaning.
  • Air Inlet Cap: A cap is provided to plug the air inlet of the spray gun, preventing solvent from entering internal passages.
  • Solvent Selection: The choice of solvent is critical, and only good quality solvent formulated for automotive paint and intended for use with automatic spray gun cleaners should be used.
  • Drain Valve: A drain valve under the unit controls the flow of solvent. It must be closed during solvent pail setup and opened for operation.
  • Lid Switch: The cleaning cycle is initiated by closing the lid and turning the "Auto Wash Timer" knob.
  • UG110VP Specific Feature: For the UG110VP model, the paint pot is placed over a rotating spray jet for cleaning.

Maintenance Features

  • Daily Maintenance - Screen: Users should inspect the screen at the bottom of the wash tank daily and clean it when necessary.
  • Daily Maintenance - Moisture Filter: The moisture filter should be drained and flushed daily, allowing air under pressure to flow through it.
  • Replacing Solvent: The solvent needs to be replaced when it becomes contaminated (e.g., milky white due to water). The procedure involves closing the drain valve, removing the suction tube and drain hose from the old pail, disposing of the solvent, and inserting the tubes into a new pail of clean solvent before opening the drain valve.
  • Troubleshooting Chart: A comprehensive troubleshooting chart is provided to diagnose common issues such as pump leaks, lack of liquid flow, pump stalling, timer malfunction, and ineffective cleaning.
  • Troubleshooting Procedures: Detailed procedures are outlined for addressing blocked fluid passages in the diaphragm pump, blocked air passages in the diaphragm pump, and blocked passages in the air line. These procedures often involve blowing air through specific hoses or replacing components if necessary.
  • Preventative Action: To prevent issues caused by contaminants in the air supply (water, oil, solid particles), installing an Airline (Moisture) Filter is recommended.
  • Replacement Parts: A list of replacement parts with their corresponding part numbers is provided, including nozzle adapters, timers, ground wires, lid switches, and delivery tubes.
