Overview

The Unicorn Smartboard is an app-enabled dartboard designed to enhance the dart-playing experience with automatic scoring and interactive features. It comes in two main variants: the Bristle Smartboard (79700) for steel tip darts and the Soft Tip Smartboard (79500) for soft tip darts. Both versions connect to a mobile device via Bluetooth LE, utilizing the Scorebuddy® App for scoring, game management, and player interaction.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Smartboard is to automatically detect dart throws and record scores, eliminating the need for manual scorekeeping. This is achieved through integrated technology within the dartboard that communicates with the Scorebuddy® App. The app provides a user-friendly interface for selecting games, managing players, and tracking game progress.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: 3 x AA Batteries.
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth LE.
  • Compatibility: Requires the Scorebuddy® App, which is available on both the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). Android users need to allow the app access to their location for correct functionality.
  • Dart Compatibility:
    • Bristle Smartboard (79700): Compatible with any steel tip darts.
    • Soft Tip Smartboard (79500): Compatible only with soft tip darts.
  • Dimensions (Fixed Height): The bullseye of the Smartboard should be hung 5' 8" (1.73m) from the floor.
  • Dimensions (Fixed Throwing Distance - Oche): The bullseye should be 7' 9 1/4" (2.37m) from the throwing line. The total distance from the throwing line to the board (including the board's depth) is 9' 7 1/2" (2.93m).

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The Smartboard should be hung according to standard dartboard measurements using the Unicorn® Oche-Mate™ for precise height and throwing distance.
  • Connection Process:
    1. Press the "Smart" button on the dartboard.
    2. Open the Scorebuddy® App on your device. Ensure Bluetooth is activated on your device.
    3. The Smart button will flash green until a connection is established.
    4. Once connected, the Smart button will hold green, and an icon in the top right corner of the Scorebuddy® App will turn red.
    5. After selecting a game and players, the app icon will turn green, and the Smart button will flash green, indicating readiness to play.
  • Player Management:
    • Adding Players: Go to settings, press the "+" button, enter the player's name, and confirm.
    • Player Actions: In settings, press and hold a player's name to access a menu of actions.
    • Selecting Players: In a chosen game, select a player's name from the right-side list to move it to the left, where it will appear in color, indicating their assigned color for the game.
  • Playing Against the Robot:
    • Activate the robot in settings by touching the grey icon, which will turn blue upon activation.
    • Select a difficulty level from 1 (easy) to 9 (hardest).
  • Dart Activation: Before play begins, place the point of each dart into the center of the "Smart" button. Failure to activate a dart will result in no score.
  • Game Flow:
    • The player whose turn it is will have their name displayed on screen, and the activation button will show green.
    • Each player throws 3 darts per turn.
    • After all 3 darts are thrown (regardless of hitting the target), the player's turn ends.
    • Once the darts are removed, the current player must press the activation button to signal the next player's turn.
  • Starting a Game (Deciding First Thrower): Each player throws one dart at the bullseye. The player closest to the bullseye throws first, and the furthest throws last. This sequence should be remembered when selecting players in the game.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Check: Ensure the Smartboard has sufficient battery power. This can be checked within the Scorebuddy® App at the bottom of the settings screen. Low battery power is a common cause of intermittent scores or connection issues.
  • Battery Replacement: If issues persist (random scores, failure to connect), replace the 3 x AA batteries located in the back of the Smartboard®.
  • Board Rotation: To extend the life of the Smartboard, it is recommended to rotate it after every session.
    1. Connect the board to the app.
    2. Go to settings. The Smartboard icon will display the current position of the Smart button (factory setting is number 15).
    3. Use the "+" or "-" buttons to change the Smart button's position number.
    4. Physically rotate the Smartboard so that the Smart button aligns with the new number position.
    5. Touch "save" to calibrate the board.
    6. Adjust the number ring so that "20" is back at the top of the Smartboard.

Troubleshooting (FAQs):

  • Connection Issues: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and follow the connection steps. Low battery power is a frequent cause of connection failure.
  • Intermittent Scores/No Connection: Check battery power via the Scorebuddy® App. Replace batteries if they are low.
  • Dart Compatibility: Use steel tip darts for the Bristle Smartboard (79700) and soft tip darts only for the Soft Tip Smartboard (79500).
