04. Make the chainring turns.
05. If you hear strange noises in the bearings, they should be checked by a mechanic.
06. Inspect the teeth on the chainring. If any is broken or twisted, the chainring must be re-
placed by an authorized mechanic.
Verification of the sprockets
01. Remove the rear wheel and rotate the sprockets with your hand.
02. If you hear a strange noise or the sprockets stop as soon as you release them, they may
need to be repaired or replaced, and must be checked by an authorized mechanic.
03. Inspect the teeth of the sprockets. If any is broken or twisted, the sprocket must be re-
placed by an authorized mechanic.
Adjustment
The adjustments, and the assembly and disassembly of the transmission set, requires specific
tools and knowledge, so we recommend it’s done by an authorized mechanic. For more information
consult the manufacturers’ technical manuals.
Lubrication
At least once a month, clean and lubricate the sprockets and chain. Always lubricate after riding in
the rain or having wet the transmission when circulating in damp areas. To lubricate use oil, grease
or special wax for chains, applying it directly on the chain, with the links are clean and shiny.
To do it:
01. Clean the chain using a cloth soaked in oil. For the sprockets and the chainring, you can also
use a brush.
02. To degrease, it is not necessary to use a special liquid. Besides it, do not use gasoline. It is
very flammable, and its degreasing properties are not the appropriate.
03. To lubricate, turn the crank to advance the chain and keep dropping oil droplets on the roll-
ers of the links, along the entire chain.
can make it difficult to shift gears, resulting in the deterioration of the sprockets and chainring
teeth. The substitution of these components is more expensive than a simple change of a chain
and therefore it is important to check the chain elongation regularly. To do it:
01. Each link of a chain measures 1 inch (25.4mm).
02. Measure 12 links of the chain.
03. If this measure is longer than 30.8 cm, the chain has been lengthened and must be re-
placed.
04. Furthermore, verify that no link is strained and that they all pivot well, without chirping.
With good maintenance, a mountain bike chain last around 1500km. This range can be consider-
ably smaller on e-bikes due to their increased power. To change the chain you need specific tools
and knowledge, so we recommend that it’s made by a trusted mechanic.
Verification of the chainring and crank assembly
Every 3 months inspect the cranks and chainring to check that the connections are firm and the
fasteners are tight. The tightening torques are on the specific component manual
To do it:
01. Place up the chain to the upper chainring.
02. Turn the chainring until a crank is parallel to the seat post. Put one hand on the crank and
another on the seat post and try to move the crank crosswise.
03. If the assembly is loose and moves, it must be checked by an authorized mechanic.
