Inspection
Before using the bicycle push firmly the brake levers. The levers must not touch the handlebar. If
any lever touches the handlebar, the system must be purged.
Purging should always be done by an authorized technician, as it requires specific material and
knowledge.
The brake fluid is very corrosive. Avoid it getting in
contact with your skin or with the bicycle.
Check before each ride, that there is no dirt on the
brake discs and pads. Also, after lubricating your bicy-
cle, check that the disc has not been impregnated with
grease or oil.
Dirty brake pads and discs can significantly reduce
the braking power.
Do not use degreasers or solvents to clean the discs.
Use a special detergent for brakes or a conventional detergent with hot water.
In no case you should clean a dirty brake pad. It should be replaced by a new one.
Brake discs and pads can be very hot after a ride, so be careful when inspecting them.
Brake discs can burn your skin. Also, their edges can be sharp and can cut. Avoid touching the
discs when they are hot or rotating.
Once a month check that the brake pads are not worn. If the brake pads are less than 1mm thick,
they should be replaced.
Also check that the pads are in the correct position, at a distance between 0.25 and 0.75mm from
the disc when the brakes are not applied. To check, turn the wheel without pressing the brakes and
watch that the pads do not touch the disc.
Check that the brake levers, discs and callipers are firmly fixed and do not move from their posi-
tion.
Check the tightening torques of the bolts weekly.
You can find information on the tightening torques in the corresponding section of this manual
area.
How to check the tightening of the headset
Stand on top of the bicycle with both feet on the ground.
With the front wheel resting on the ground, turn the handlebar from left to right and vice versa.
Observe the movement and listen. The movement must be smooth, without noise, jumps or
getting stuck along the entire travel of the handlebar.
If after performing the inspection, you are not sure of its proper condition, do not use the bicycle
and take it to an authorized mechanic.
A malfunction or incorrect adjustment of the headset can make you lose control and fall.
Adjustment
The adjustment of the headset requires special tools as well as specific knowledge, therefore the
adjustment must only be made by an authorized mechanic.
Lubrication
Once a year the headset should be lubricated. This requires special tools as well as specific knowl-
edge, which is why it should only be done by your authorized mechanic.
