swing of the suspension and allows rolling more efficiently through smooth terrain, such as public
or rural roads.
In order to not damage the shock and the frame, this function must not be activated on rough ter-
rain. When the shock absorber is blocked, the ground impacts are transmitted directly to the frame
and the cyclist.
All UNNO bicycles with integral suspension mount pneumatic shock absorbers and are designed to
be used only with the originally assembled shock or a similar one.
The assembly of an inadequate shock or one with a different length, can make your bicycle not
being safe and can damage it, with the risk of falling. Before purchasing a new component, consult
with our technicians.
Inspection
Check weekly that the links of the rear suspension links and the swing arm have no lateral clear-
ances. To do this, lift the bicycle by the seat and try to move the rear wheel from one side to the
other.
Also check that the shock absorber attachment has no vertical clearance. To do this, lay the rear
wheel on the ground and raise it again. No noise or creaking should occur.
Weekly, or if you have detected clearances, check the tightening torques of all the pivots of the
rear suspension are adequate and have not loosened. Otherwise, do not apply a torque too high, or
you can break the part or damage the thread.
All bolts must be tightened with a torque wrench and adjusted according to the values specified
in the «Tightening torques” section of this manual.
Make sure all clearances in the rear suspension system have been corrected. Otherwise, some
parts may be damaged and should be replaced. If you do not know how to do it, contact us or take
your bicycle to an authorized mechanic.
It is very important that the bolts are screwed correctly. If you tighten them against an incor-
rectly aligned part, you can damage its thread or the frame thread. Therefore, you should always
start to screw by hand and finish with the torque wrench.
Periodically check the pressure of the rear shock absorber, as it may decrease over time. For this,
a suspension specific high pressure air pump is required.
Remove the lubricant excess with a clean cloth
It is recommended to make at regular intervals, a thorough revision of the fork, dismantling all the
elements composing it, for its inspection, replacement and lubrication. The forks are sophisticated
components, so the commission of this preventive maintenance service should be done by a tech-
nical assistance centre authorized by the fork manufacturer.
Depending on the bicycle usage and the fork model, the time between preventive maintenance
services may vary, although it’s generally recommended to do it once a year. For more information,
follow the instructions in the fork manufacturer technical manual.
11 | REAR SUSPENSION
The rear suspension allows a vertical movement of the rear wheel, absorbing irregularities in the
terrain and transmitting less vibration to the cyclist.
The rear shock system is fully integrated with the bicycle frame, so its performance depends en-
tirely on the adjustment and maintenance of each of its parts:
Frame and swing arm.
Links
Pivots and fixings.
Bearings
Rear shock
All these components have to be properly adjusted with their screws rightly tightened.
The rear shock is adjusted accordingly to the weight of the rider, his position in the seat and the
bicycle usage.
When the cyclist sits on the bike, the shock is compressed. This compression travel is called SAG
and provides the negative travel of the suspension. The SAG acts when the wheel passes over a
hole and the suspension extends, keeping the wheel in contact with the ground.
In the Cross Country (XC) and Marathon modalities, the SAG generally is adjusted to a shorter
travel than in the Enduro or Downhill specialties.
Some shocks incorporate a suspension blocking device (Lockout). This function eliminates the
