Carefully check the frame and all components, especially the fork, handlebar, stem, cranks, seat
post and pedals, to detect cracks, dents, deformations or discolorations.
Carbon parts affected for a violent shock and bent aluminium parts can break suddenly. They
should never be straightened, as it increases the breakage risk.
For your own safety, if any component is damaged, replace it before riding again.
If the frame is not in perfect conditions, the bike must not be used until it has been repaired, or
its use has been approved by an UNNO technician.
Wheels
Make the wheels turn and check that they remain correctly fixed on the dropouts and that the rims
remain centred with respect to the frame and the fork. If the tire rotation is not uniform, take your
bicycle to an authorized technician.
Handlebars
Check that the handlebar has not been bent and is not broken. Ensure it is straight and tight on
the fork, trying to turn the handlebar with respect to the front wheel.
Gear shifters
Check that the chain keeps engaged in the chainring and sprockets. After a fall you should check
its operation. Ask someone to lift the rear wheel while slowly changing one gear after another. Pay
attention to the distance between the rear derailleur and the spokes, especially when the chain
goes around the larger sprocket. Make sure the derailleur does not touch the spokes.
If the rear derailleur or the dropouts are deformed, the derailleur may catch on the spokes and
cause fall.
Seat
Check the position of the seat by looking along the top tube, to make sure it has not rotated.
It is mandatory to have a 12mm gap between wheel and seat when the rear shock is fully com-
pressed.
Automatic pedals and cleats
The pedals and the cleats must be clean of dirt and mud. Before riding, lean on a wall and make
sure it can be hooked and unhooked without problems. During the whole journey, always keep
the clip pedals clean, removing the dirt that gets into the pedal and cleats, when standing on the
ground or in the mud.
Too much dirt could prevent you from detaching quickly enough and cause a fall.
Tightening torque of the frame pivots
Check weekly the tightening torques of the different components of your frame.
All bolts must be screwed with a torque wrench and adjusted according to the values specified
in the «Tightening torques» section of this manual.
AFTER AN IMPACT OR EXTREME USE
After suffering a fall or after a prolonged use in extreme conditions, an inspection of the bicycle
should be made to detect signs of fatigue or deformations due to excessive stress.
