Overview

This document describes the Utek FLAT series of heat recovery ventilation units for residential buildings, designed for indoor air quality and energy saving. The manual provides comprehensive guidelines for installation, use, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Utek FLAT units are designed to provide heat recovery ventilation in residential buildings. They facilitate the exchange of indoor air with fresh outdoor air while recovering heat from the exhaust air, thereby reducing energy consumption for heating or cooling. The units are equipped with fans to manage airflow and a heat exchanger for efficient heat recovery. They are suitable for maintaining indoor air quality by continuously supplying fresh, filtered air and exhausting stale air.

Important Technical Specifications

The units are designed for installation within residential buildings or outdoors, with an ambient temperature range of 0°C to +45°C. The protection degree of the unit is IP20.

Dimensions and Weights: The manual provides dimensions for two models, FLAT 1 and FLAT 2, for various installation types (horizontal floor, ceiling, and vertical wall mounted).

Unit A (mm) B (mm)
FLAT 1 913 520
FLAT 2 1133 580

The weight of the units ranges from 31 kg to 42 kg, which is important for handling and installation.

Electrical Specifications: The units comply with several European directives:

  • Machinery directive 2006/42/EC
  • Low Voltage Directive EEC 2014/35/EU
  • Electromagnetic compatibility directive 2014/30/EU

Electrical connections require a 1p-n + earth cable. The cable cross-section must be adequate for the maximum absorbed current and protected by a residual current operated circuit-breaker with integral overcurrent protection (RCBOS) (IΔη=0.03A). The power supply voltage must not fluctuate by more than ±5% of the nominal data indicated on the machine plate.

Condensate Drainage: The units are equipped with a condensate drainage system. A drain pipe with a siphon and a minimum slope of 3% is required to prevent water stagnation and ensure proper drainage. An additional siphon is necessary if a BA-AF/AC cold water coil or DX gas coil is installed, with both condensate drains requiring their own trap.

Usage Features

Installation: The Utek FLAT units can be installed in three main configurations:

  1. Horizontal Floor Installation: The unit is equipped with lifting rods in the four bottom unit angles for fastening to the floor and leveling.
  2. Ceiling Installation: The unit has lifting rods in the four top unit angles for fastening to the ceiling and leveling.
  3. Vertical Wall Mounted Installation: The unit features lifting brackets in the four angles for wall mounting.

Minimum space requirements for maintenance are specified for each installation type. Proper ducting, electrical connection, and condensate drainage pipe fastening are crucial for all installations.

Safety: The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • All operations, especially those involving electrical parts, must be performed by qualified personnel with the power off.
  • Safety protection devices should not be removed unless absolutely necessary, and must be restored promptly.
  • Warning signs, such as "control disconnected for maintenance works," should be used during maintenance.
  • The unit is provided with an interlock to prevent unauthorized starts.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn during handling and maintenance.
  • If fan mouths are not ducted, a suitable protection net must be used.

Handling and Storage:

  • When moving the unit, appropriate lifting equipment must be used, considering the unit's weight. Manual lifting is permissible up to 20 kg below shoulder level.
  • The unit should be stored in a sheltered place, free from excessive moisture and sudden temperature changes to prevent condensation. Long-term storage (over one year) requires checking the free rotation of bearings before installation.

Start-up: Before starting the unit, it is essential to check for condensation inside and wipe it dry if present, verify filter status, ensure no foreign objects are inside, confirm all components are fastened, manually check that the impeller does not rub, and ensure the inspection door is closed.

Maintenance Features

Filter Maintenance: Filters need to be replaced periodically. The frequency depends on the level of environmental air pollution (dust, fumes, etc.). The manual includes visual instructions for accessing and replacing filters.

Heat Exchanger Maintenance: The heat exchanger should be cleaned approximately once per operating year. The manual provides visual steps for accessing and cleaning the heat exchanger. A video tutorial for maintenance is available on the Utek website (www.utek-air.it). When handling the heat exchanger, it is crucial to touch only the marked areas.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a detailed troubleshooting guide for common operational anomalies and specific issues related to the CTR08 / EVO PH / EVO D PH microprocessor control.

Common Anomalies and Remedies:

  • Difficult start: Check supply voltage and motor static torque.
  • Airflow performance drop: Check for air leaks, damaged impeller, or clogged pipelines/suction points.
  • Insufficient air capacity/pressure: Clean pipelines, impeller, or filters; check rotation speed; clean heat exchanger.
  • Too cold discharge air (heat exchanger): Employ post-heating devices.
  • Insufficient heat exchanger performance: Clean heat exchanger fins.
  • Air pulsation: Modify the circuit, replace the fan, clean/replace suction duct, or adjust minimum speed on the electronic speed-regulator.
  • Excessive vibrations: Check and restore impeller balance.

Microprocessor Control Anomalies (CTR08 / EVO PH / EVO D PH):

  • Fan alert: Check for blockages or fan failure.
  • Filter alert: Replace clogged filters.
  • Probe alert: Replace faulty probes by service technicians.
  • Display/LED OFF: Check power supply and connection between control panel and electronic card.

All maintenance and cleaning operations must be performed by qualified personnel with the unit disconnected from power.
