Using the barbecue
This barbecue can be used to cook meat, seafood, fish and vegetables al fresco.
WARNING! RISK OF BURNS / CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING / FIRE
Never use the barbecue indoors or in an enclosed space, as there is a risk of
carbon monoxide poisoning.
Never use any kind of ignition fluid to start or rekindle a fire.
To avoid burns, do not touch any part of the barbecue while it is in use or
cooling down. Use protective gloves, such as oven mitts, when using the unit.
Never move the barbecue while it is hot. Allow the unit to cool before moving it.
Do not use excessive oil or grease when barbecuing food. Too much oil or
grease can produce larger-than-normal flames or even an out-of-control
barbecue fire. If necessary, use a basting brush to apply a thin layer of oil or
grease to food.
Make sure the barbecue is clean.
Place a layer of charcoal or briquettes (not included) on the charcoal grill J.
Lay one or two fire starters (not included) on top of the charcoal bed. Light them with a
match.
Let the fire starters burn for 2 to 4 minutes. Then, piece by piece, add the charcoal or
briquettes in such a way to create a pyramid.
After approx. 30 minutes, a layer of white ash should have formed on the charcoal or
briquettes. This indicates that the ideal cooking temperature has been reached. Evenly
spread the embers.
Position the grills and start cooking the food.
Whilst cooking, you can control the barbecue’s temperature by closing the lid. You can also
monitor the temperature by looking at the thermometer on the lid. The recommended
cooking temperature range is 200-300°C.
The dampers D on the base of the barbecue allow oxygen to fuel the fire. Partially or fully
open the dampers to increase the heat. To reduce the heat, close them. The lid dampers
D function as air vents through which the gases escape and create a vacuum to draw air
into the base of the barbecue and thus, stoke the fire.
To adjust the level of heat needed to cook your food, you can also position the grill higher or
lower. To do so, simply turn the charcoal grill handle BB clockwise to move the charcoal grill
J upwards and increase the heat. Likewise, turn the charcoal grill handle BB anticlockwise
to move the charcoal grill J downwards and reduce the heat, in addition to the proximity
of the food from the hot coals.
To add more charcoal or briquettes whilst cooking, unlock the door by turning the handle
from its vertical (locked) position to a horizontal (unlocked) position and pulling to open.
Use long barbecue tongs to add charcoal. Close the door and turn the handle so that it
returns to its upright (locked) position.
When you have finished using the barbecue, close the lid E and dampers D to help extinguish
the embers.
