Overview

The Vax Air Stretch vacuum cleaner is designed for effective and efficient cleaning of carpets and hard floors, offering powerful and lightweight performance with an extensive 17-meter reach. This user guide provides instructions for assembly, operation, and maintenance to ensure the machine is always ready for use.

Function Description:

The Vax Air Stretch is an upright vacuum cleaner primarily intended for household use. It is equipped with a rotating brushbar for deep cleaning of carpets and can be switched to a hard floor mode where the brushbar is turned off to prevent damage to delicate surfaces. The vacuum features a thermal cut-out mechanism that automatically turns off the machine if it overheats, ensuring safety and preventing damage. It also includes an air vent that can be opened to decrease suction for high-piled carpets or closed to increase suction for maximum cleaning on hard floors. The vacuum cleaner is designed to be used with Vax recommended tools and accessories to optimize its cleaning capabilities across various surfaces and areas.

Usage Features:

To begin using the Vax Air Stretch, the handle needs to be inserted into the main unit, and the 3-in-1 tool can be placed onto the onboard storage area. The handle height is adjustable to suit the user's preference. To operate, the quick-release cord hook is twisted to release the power cord, which is then plugged into an electrical socket. The ON/OFF button switches the machine on. The unit reclines for floor cleaning. The brushbar can be switched on for carpets and off for hard floors, with a caution against using the brushbar on hard floors to avoid damage. When using accessories, the brushbar should always be in the off position. The vacuum cleaner automatically stops the brushbar when stood in the upright position.

Accessories, such as the 3-in-1 tool (which converts into a crevice tool, upholstery tool, and dusting brush), can be attached to the telescopic extension tube or directly to the hose for versatile cleaning. To attach an accessory, the hose end is removed from the floorhead, an accessory is chosen (some may require a tool connector), and then attached to the hose end. For extended reach, the telescopic extension tube can be removed, the hose attached to it, and then an accessory attached to the extension tube. The air vent on the floorhead can be slid open to decrease suction, which is useful for high-piled carpets, or closed to increase suction for maximum cleaning on hard floors. For most efficient results, the air vent should be kept closed.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance of the Vax Air Stretch is crucial for its longevity and performance. This includes emptying and cleaning the dirt container, cleaning the HEPA pre-motor filter, cleaning the shroud, maintaining the HEPA post-motor filter, removing debris from the brushbar, and changing the brushbar and belt.

To empty the dirt container, the release button is pressed, and the container is pulled to remove it. Holding the container over a bin, the release button is pressed again to allow dirt to fall out. For cleaning the HEPA pre-motor filter, the dirt container lid is turned anti-clockwise and lifted to remove. The tab on the filter is grasped and pulled to remove it. The filter can be tapped over a bin to release dirt and then washed under running water (40°C max). It must be left to fully dry for at least 24 hours before being put back into the vacuum cleaner. Pre-motor filters require cleaning at least every 3 months.

Cleaning the shroud involves turning the dirt container lid anti-clockwise and lifting it. The separator is then lifted from the dirt container, and any dirt and debris are tapped over a bin. Dirt can also be brushed from the shroud. The HEPA post-motor filter is designed for long life with no maintenance, but it should be checked periodically and replaced if heavily discoloured. It must not be washed, scrubbed, or brushed, as this will damage the delicate filter media. To access it, the button on the post-motor filter cover is pressed, and the cover is removed, followed by removing the filter itself for checking.

Removing debris from the brushbar is indicated by a red light on the floorhead. The vacuum cleaner should be switched off at the main socket, and any hair or debris cut free from around the brushbar using scissors. A green light will indicate when the brushbar is clear. For changing the brushbar, the vacuum must be unplugged and switched off. Three screws are removed from the side of the floorhead using a crosshead screwdriver, followed by removing the end cap belt cover and the brushbar location plate. The belt is then removed. The brushbar side cover is lifted and separated, and the brushbar is pulled through the brushbar side cover to remove it.

For the TurboTool, blockages are removed by unscrewing two screws on the bottom cover with a crosshead screwdriver, removing the bottom cover, and cleaning out any debris or hair from the brushbar and turbine fan. The bottom cover is then replaced, and the screws tightened. It is cautioned not to add lubricant to the brushbar as its bearings are sufficiently lubricated for their lifetime.

Changing the belt also requires unplugging and switching off the vacuum. Three screws are removed from the belt cover on the side of the floorhead, and the belt cover is pulled off. The brushbar location plate is pulled off, and the belt is removed. If the belt is not broken, the cogs are rotated anti-clockwise, and the belt is slid off the large cog first. Any debris from the cogs should be cleaned. To replace the belt, it is hooked over the small cog first, then slid over the top of the large cog, and rotated anti-clockwise with the cog until the grooved belt slides onto the cog.

Troubleshooting tips are provided for common issues such as missing accessories, no power, lack of pick-up, non-rotating brushbar, a red light on the floorhead, or dust escaping from the vacuum. These tips often direct the user to check filters, blockages, proper assembly, or contact customer support.
