For Tier 4 engines, the unit offers advanced control capabilities, including the ability to send CAN commands for Forced Regeneration, Regeneration Inhibit, and Auto Regeneration, thereby eliminating the need for a physical switch on the dashboard. This integration streamlines DPF management and provides a centralized control point.

Important Technical Specifications:

The display features a graphical interface with various indicator lamps. These include:

High Exhaust System Temperature (HEST) Lamp: Indicates high exhaust temperatures, relevant for Tier 4 engines only.
Glow Plug Lamp: Indicates glow plug operation, for ECM controlled engines only.
Regeneration Inhibit Switch/Lamp: Indicates if regeneration is inhibited, for Tier 4 engines only.
Diesel Particulate Filter Lamp: Indicates DPF status, for Tier 4 engines only.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid Level Lamp: Indicates DEF level (if equipped).

Menu Navigation: Pressing and holding key 5 from any display screen accesses the Top Level Menu. Pressing key 5 within a sub-menu returns to the previous menu.
Alarm Management: Alarms are displayed on a dedicated screen. Unacknowledged alarms appear in black text on a red background, while acknowledged alarms are shown in white text on black. Alarms can be acknowledged by pressing key 3.
DPF Regeneration Control (Tier 4 Engines):
- Passive Regeneration: Occurs automatically in the background when the unit is running above idle RPM. This is the default "Auto" mode and helps prevent premature soot buildup.
- Forced Regeneration: Required when the soot level is above a certain limit (indicated by the DPF lamp and potentially an SPN 3719 alarm). To initiate a forced regen, the vehicle must be parked in a safe location, in neutral, with the parking brake applied. The operator then navigates to the T4 Control menu, selects "Forced Regen" (Key 1), and holds until the HEST lamp appears. Forced regen typically raises RPM to 2000 RPM and can last 5-20 minutes depending on soot load.
- Regeneration Inhibit: Allows the operator to temporarily prevent regeneration (Key 3 in T4 Control menu).
- Auto Mode: The default setting for DPF regeneration (Key 2 in T4 Control menu).
System Settings: The "System Menu" allows access to COM Viewer, PIN Settings, Factory Reset, and About information.
PIN Protection: The "PIN Settings" feature allows setting a PIN to prevent unauthorized access to the VEM menu. The default PIN is "SEE DEALER/MFG".

Maintenance Features:

Diagnostic Information: The display provides fault codes (e.g., SPN, FMI) and engine hours associated with alarms, aiding in troubleshooting.
Factory Reset: This function resets all settings to default values, including PIN settings.
Software Reload: If the PIN is lost, a complete reload of the VEM software via USB connection is required to regain access to the menu. This will reset all default settings and erase any user changes.

Important Warnings:

Parameter Modification: Modifying parameters without authorization will void the warranty.
Lost PIN: If the PIN is changed, it must be written down in a safe location. Losing the PIN necessitates a complete software reload, resulting in the loss of all custom settings.
Regen Initiation: If the engine has other faults, regeneration may not initiate.
Avoid Excessive Idle: To prevent premature soot buildup, avoid excessive idling, as passive regeneration occurs above idle RPM.
