Do you have a question about the Velleman VMA328 and is the answer not in the manual?
The VMA328 is an analogue UV light sensor module designed to extend light-sensing capabilities to the ultraviolet spectrum. It utilizes a UV photodiode capable of detecting light in the 240-370 nm range, which encompasses both UVB and most of the UVA spectrum. Due to the very small signal level from the photodiode (in the nano-ampere range), the module incorporates an op-amp to amplify the signal to a more manageable volt-level, making it suitable for integration with microcontrollers like Arduino.
The VMA328 module is designed for indoor use only and should be kept away from rain, moisture, splashing, and dripping liquids. It connects to a microcontroller with three pins: Vcc (power supply, typically 5V), Gnd (ground), and S (signal output, typically connected to an analog input pin like A0 on an Arduino).
The module can be integrated into Arduino projects using the Arduino programming language and IDE. Example code snippets are provided for basic setup and reading the sensor's output. The setup() function typically initializes serial communication for debugging and sets the analog pin connected to the sensor as an input. The loop() function continuously reads the analog value from the sensor, converts it to a voltage (if necessary, adjusting for the power supply voltage, e.g., 3.3V or 5V), and prints the readings to the serial monitor. A delay is often included between reads for stability. A table is provided to correlate UV index, output voltage (Vout in mV), and the corresponding analog value, aiding in interpreting sensor readings.
The VMA328 is a robust module, but proper handling is essential for its longevity. It should not be switched on immediately after being exposed to temperature changes; allow it to reach room temperature first to prevent damage. All modifications to the device are forbidden for safety reasons and will void the warranty. The device should only be used for its intended purpose. Damage caused by improper handling, negligent maintenance, abusive use, or use contrary to the manufacturer's instructions is not covered under warranty.
For environmental responsibility, the device should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. Instead, it should be taken to a specialized company for recycling or returned to the distributor or a local recycling service, adhering to local environmental rules.
The Velleman® warranty covers production flaws and defective materials for 24 months from the original purchase date for consumer products. However, the warranty does not cover direct or indirect damage caused after delivery (e.g., by oxidation, shocks, falls, dust, dirt, humidity), damage from fire, water, lightning, accidents, natural disasters, or damage caused by commercial/professional use (which reduces warranty validity to six months). Damage resulting from inappropriate packing and shipping, or modifications/repairs by unauthorized third parties, are also not covered. For repairs, the article must be delivered to a Velleman® dealer, solidly packed, with the original receipt and a clear flaw description. Returning a non-defective article may incur handling costs. Repairs after warranty expiration are subject to shipping costs.
