Function Description

The overhead stirrers are designed to provide controlled stirring for various laboratory processes. All models are designed for continuous operation and have a pollution degree of 2 and an overvoltage category of II, with a maximum installation altitude of 2000m (6561 ft) asl. The housing is made of die-cast polymer, the structure of aluminum, and the control panel of PET.

Usage Features

  1. Assembly and Installation:

    • The instrument should be placed on a flat laboratory bench, at least 30 cm from a wall.
    • It must be securely fastened to a support rod (A00001300) using a double clamp (A00001301).
    • The receptacle should be secured with a ribbon clamp (A00001302) to prevent damage.
    • The stirring shaft is assembled using an Allen head screw.
    • Before connecting to the power supply, ensure the voltage values on the rating plate match the power supply. The socket and cut-off device must conform to safety norms.
  2. Operating Controls:

    • The unit is turned on using the main ON/OFF switch.
    • Stirring speed is selected by turning the potentiometer knob, with speeds indicated on an analogue scale around the knob.
    • The selected speed setting is saved even after the instrument is turned off or in case of a power failure, and stirring resumes at the previously set speed upon restart.
  3. Overload Protection:

    • The stirrers feature electronic current and voltage limitation to protect the motor and electronic components from electrical surges.
    • In abnormal conditions, the unit automatically shuts down.
    • Over Load (Current surges): The stirrer can compensate for temporary current surges. If persistent, the motor speed gradually reduces to 0, and the unit shuts down.
    • Over Curr (Rpm error): This error occurs if the chuck is blocked or if the revs exceed the maximum permitted value.
    • Over Temp (Temperature error): This error occurs during prolonged heavy-duty work at ambient temperatures exceeding the maximum permitted value. The instrument must cool down before resetting.
    • Over Volt (Voltage surge): The software limits the motor's power supply to its nominal value (60V). High speed settings or heavy loads can cause higher voltage, which is then limited to 60V, reducing revs. If the motor's power supply exceeds 70V, the unit shuts down with an "OVERLOAD" message.
    • To reset the unit after an overload, remove the load from the chuck and cycle the power using the main switch.
  4. Safety Precautions:

    • The plug is the disconnect means; ensure the instrument is placed where it can be quickly disconnected.
    • Do not use the instrument in explosive environments or with dangerous/flammable substances.
    • Do not immerse the unit in water.
    • Always place the stirring shaft in the receptacle before turning the unit on to avoid dangerous free-air rotation.
    • Users are responsible for decontaminating the instrument if hazardous substances fall on or in it. Use safety substances for cleaning that do not react with internal parts.
    • If the solution being stirred may release toxic, dangerous, or poisonous gases, adequate safety measures (e.g., hood, personal protective equipment) must be taken.
    • The working speed should be set to avoid wobbling and/or splashes.

Maintenance Features

  1. Routine Maintenance:

    • No routine or extraordinary maintenance is required beyond periodic cleaning.
    • Any repairs must be carried out by VELP Scientifica or authorized local distributors, in accordance with product guarantee laws.
    • The instrument should be transported in its original packaging, following any specific instructions (e.g., palletized).
  2. Cleaning:

    • Disconnect the unit from the power supply before cleaning.
    • Use a cloth dampened with a mild, non-flammable detergent.
    • Users are responsible for proper decontamination of the unit if hazardous substances are present on its surface or interior. Contact the manufacturer or distributor if unsure about cleaning product compatibility.
