Overview

The Vicks Mini CoolMist Humidifier (Model VUL520) is a device designed to add water vapor to the surrounding air, helping users breathe better. It operates with ultra-quiet performance and includes an auto shut-off feature for safety and convenience. The humidifier also incorporates scent pads to provide a soothing aroma, enhancing the user experience.

Function Description

The primary function of the Vicks Mini CoolMist Humidifier is to disperse cool water vapor into the air. This process helps to increase the humidity level in a room, which can alleviate dryness and improve breathing comfort. The device uses a nebulizer to convert water into a fine mist, which is then released into the environment. A float mechanism helps monitor the water level within the tank. The humidifier is equipped with a power knob to control its operation and a night light feature for added convenience in dimly lit rooms. The inclusion of Vicks VapoPads® allows for the release of soothing vapors, such as eucalyptus oil, menthol, glycol, and cedar leaf oil, into the mist, providing a therapeutic effect.

Usage Features

To set up the humidifier, users should first remove all packaging materials and extend the power cord. The unit must be placed on a firm, level, water-resistant surface, at least 30cm (12 inches) away from any walls. When filling the humidifier, the tank should be carried using two hands, with one hand supporting the carrying handle on the tank top and the other supporting the base. The tank cap is removed by twisting it in the direction of the open lock sign. The tank should be filled with cool water, never warm or hot, and the cap securely replaced by aligning the arrow to the lock symbol. The tank is then placed back on the base. It is crucial to handle the water tank with care to avoid unnecessary impact, as banging or dropping it could cause damage and lead to leaks.

For operation, the power knob should be in the off position before plugging the humidifier into a 240V AC electrical outlet. Users should avoid plugging the unit into an outlet with wet hands to prevent electric shock. Once plugged in, the power knob can be turned to the highest setting to begin mist output. The mist output should be directed away from walls, furniture, and bedding. If the humidifier needs to be moved, it must first be turned off, unplugged, and emptied.

The Vicks Mini CoolMist Humidifier supports the use of Vicks VapoPads® (VSP-19) to provide up to 8 hours of soothing vapors. To use a scent pad, the scent pad door is opened, and the VapoPad® is removed from its bag by tearing the notch. Users should avoid touching the pad with bare hands, and if contact occurs, they should not rub their face or eyes, as it may cause irritation. The VapoPad® is then inserted with the angled end facing towards the product, and the door is closed. After 8 hours, the scent pad should be discarded, and a new one can be inserted by repeating the steps. It is important to note that VapoPads® are not recommended for infants under 4.5kg (10 lbs). For children between 4.5-10kg (10-22 lbs), no more than two pads should be used in a 24-hour period.

Users should be aware that high mineral content in water, often referred to as "hard water," can lead to a white mineral residue (scale) accumulating on surfaces near the humidifier. This is a natural occurrence and not a defect of the humidifier itself. Using distilled water can minimize the production of this mineral buildup.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is essential for the proper functioning and longevity of the Vicks Mini CoolMist Humidifier. The cleaning process involves two separate procedures: Scale Removal and Disinfecting, which must be performed separately. All maintenance should be carried out in a kitchen or bathroom on a water-resistant surface near a tap. No components of the humidifier should be washed in a dishwasher. For optimal results, cleaning should be done weekly.

For Scale Removal:

  1. Turn off and unplug the humidifier.
  2. Remove the water tank from the base, taking care that the black rubber cap seal does not come off. Empty any remaining water from both the water tank and the base.
  3. If a VapoPad® is installed, remove it and set it aside; do not clean VapoPads®.
  4. Add 2 cups of undiluted distilled white vinegar to the water tank. Replace the tank cap and swish the vinegar solution around in the tank.
  5. Place the tank back on the base. The vinegar solution will drain into the water reservoir, loosening mineral buildup (scale) on the nebulizer and float as they soak. It will also loosen scale on the bottom of the water tank.
  6. Allow the components to soak for 15-20 minutes.
  7. After soaking, unlock the tank cap and pour the vinegar solution out into a sink. Pour the solution from the water reservoir into the sink.
  8. Wipe the nebulizer and float with a soft cloth to remove any loosened mineral deposits.
  9. Rinse the water reservoir and water tank thoroughly until the smell of vinegar is gone. Ensure that water does not enter the fan opening (vented opening in the back of the base) or the power knob.
  10. CAUTION: Do not submerge the base in water, as this will damage the humidifier and void the warranty.

For Disinfecting:

  1. Follow steps 1-3 of the Scale Removal instructions.
  2. For Step 4: Add 1½ teaspoons of bleach to 1.9 liters of water and add this mixture to the water tank. Replace the tank cap and swish the solution around in the tank.
  3. Place the tank back on the base. The bleach solution will drain into the water reservoir and disinfect it, along with other components as they soak.
  4. NOTE: Using more than 1½ teaspoons of bleach per 1.9 liters of water may damage the humidifier.
  5. Complete the disinfecting process by following steps 5-7 of the Scale Removal instructions.
  6. NOTE: Do not mix vinegar and bleach solutions together. Scale Removal and Disinfecting must be performed separately.

For End-Of-Season Care And Storage: At the end of the season, follow the cleaning instructions, ensuring any VapoPads® are removed. Remove any accessories used with the humidifier and allow both the humidifier and accessories to dry completely before storing. Do not store the unit with water inside the base, water reservoir, or tank. Pack the unit safely and store it in a cool, dry location.
