Do you have a question about the Viega Pressgun 5 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Viega Pressgun 5 is an electro-hydraulically operated press machine designed for pressing press connectors into piping systems. It is suitable for use with all Viega plumbing and heating installation systems up to and including dimension 108, as well as dimensions from ⅜ inch up to 2 inches, when combined with Viega system press jaws. The machine operates with a voltage of 18 V DC, powered either by a rechargeable battery or a mains adapter.

Function Description

The Pressgun 5 initiates pressing by switching the machine on and pressing the Start button. A hydraulically operated roller head moves forward into the press jaw, closing it with a power of 32 kN to press the connector into the pipeline. The machine is electronically monitored to prevent incorrect operation and ensure flawless pressing. LEDs on the front of the machine indicate the operating status and any malfunctions. The cylinder head, which houses the press jaw fixture, is 180° rotatable, allowing for flexible alignment of the press jaws to the pressing point. If the power supply is interrupted during pressing, a manual release button can be used to return the roller head to its start position. The pressing process automatically completes once the press machine generates the required press force. If the roller head has not yet touched the press jaw and no pressing force has been built up, the process can be aborted by releasing the Start button. In automatic mode, pressing can only be aborted by pressing the manual release button.

Usage Features

  • Target Groups: Intended for heating and plumbing experts and trained personnel.
  • Commissioning: Requires checking the scope of delivery, inserting a fully charged battery or mains adapter, and pulling out the retaining bolt at the press jaw fixture before inserting the press jaw.
  • Safety: Emphasizes avoiding body contact with earthed surfaces, protecting power tools from rain/wet conditions, using RCDs in damp locations, staying alert, wearing eye protection, preventing unintentional starting, removing adjusting keys/wrenches before operation, maintaining proper footing, dressing properly, and using dust extraction if available. Crucially, users must not operate the machine without a press jaw inserted, avoid placing fingers in the danger zone, and keep hands away from the moving roller head and press jaws during operation.
  • LED Indicators:
    • Green flashing: Low battery charge.
    • Green lit up: Machine ready for operation.
    • Red flashing: Machine blocked (retaining bolt not pushed in).
    • Red lit up: Outside recommended temperature range (-5°C to 50°C).
    • Yellow flashing: 40,000 strokes reached/exceeded (safety shutdown after 2,000 more pressings).
    • Yellow lit up: Machine blocked (faulty or 42,000 strokes reached).
  • Automatic Shutdown: The press machine switches off automatically after ten minutes of inactivity.
  • Press Jaw Compatibility: Only use press jaws that match the nominal width of the press connector and are compatible with the Viega system.
  • Workpiece Security: Secure the workpiece using clamping devices or a vice to free both hands for tool operation.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Maintenance: Tools are subject to normal wear and tear and require maintenance at regular intervals by authorized Viega service partners.
  • Hydraulic Oil: Subject to natural aging; Viega recommends inspection and maintenance at least every four years.
  • Electronic Monitoring: In case of malfunction, the electronic monitoring function will automatically lock the press machine, requiring contact with an authorized service partner.
  • Cleaning the Press Machine:
    • Ensure the machine is not energized (disconnected from mains or battery removed).
    • No press jaw inserted.
    • Wipe with a slightly damp cloth.
    • Clean press rolls of the roller head dry and treat with maintenance oil (art. no. 667 924).
    • Never dip the machine into fluids.
  • Cleaning Press Jaws and Press Rings:
    • Remove dirt and metallic residues.
    • Remove residues from the press jaw contour (e.g., using Viega cleaning fleece, art. no. 104 412).
    • Apply maintenance oil to hinges and all moving parts (art. no. 667 924).
    • Lightly spray with maintenance oil and wipe off with a lint-free cloth after a short time.
  • Performing Checks:
    • After each use, check press contour for damage or wear.
    • Check for smooth operation of press jaws and rings.
    • Perform a test pressing with a press connector inserted to check proper function.
  • Maintenance Labels: Viega system press jaws and rings have labels indicating the next maintenance due date, which must be respected to ensure safety and proper function. A new sticker is applied after maintenance.
  • Repairs: Do not attempt repairs yourself; only authorized service partners should carry them out.
  • Disposal: Do not dispose of the press machine in household waste; send it to a local service partner or recycling company for environmentally compatible disposal.
