This document is an installation guide for the Viking 5 Series 15"W. Undercounter/Freestanding Ice Machine, covering models FGIM515, CFGIM515, FPIM515, and CFPIM515. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance of the ice machine.
Function Description:
The Viking 5 Series ice machine is designed to produce ice and store it in an integrated bin. It is suitable for undercounter or freestanding installation in residential or commercial settings. The unit takes in room temperature air at the lower right front and expels warm air at the lower left front. Proper airflow is crucial for efficient ice production. The machine can be supplied with either a professional door panel or a custom door panel, allowing for integration with various cabinetry styles. It is available in two main configurations: a gravity drain model and a pump model for drainage.

Usage Features:
- Undercounter/Freestanding Installation: The unit can be installed beneath a countertop or as a standalone appliance.
- Door Panel Options: Users can choose between a professional stainless steel door panel or a custom wood panel (not exceeding 15 lbs) to match existing cabinetry. The custom panel dimensions are 14-7/8" (37.9 cm) width, 30-5/16" (77.0 cm) height, and 5/8" (14.5 cm) to 3/4" (1.9 cm) thickness.
- Adjustable Door Swing: The door hinges can be configured to open from either the left or right side, providing flexibility for placement. Instructions are provided for changing the door swing, which must be done before attaching the door panel.
- Door Stop: A door stop pin can be inserted into the hinges to prevent the door from opening too wide and damaging adjacent cabinets.
- Leveling Legs: The unit is equipped with leveling legs to ensure proper alignment and stability during installation.
- Kickplate: The kickplate comes with a stainless steel covering. This covering can be removed to expose a black kickplate underneath, using supplied black screws. The stainless steel covering should not be removed if the ice machine is used outdoors.
- Water Filtration: While not mandatory, filtering the water is recommended to improve ice quality by removing taste, odors, and particles. Reverse osmosis (RO) water can be used, provided its conductivity is at least 10 microSiemens/cm, and post-treatment is included to address potential aggressiveness. Deionized water is not recommended. Water softeners may not improve ice conditions in very hard water, potentially leading to white, mushy cubes.
Maintenance Features:
- Easy Access for Service: The front service access panel is removable for maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Cleaning: The manual emphasizes turning the power switch to the OFF position before attempting to clean or service the unit.
- GFI Requirement: A Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) should be used if required by local codes, especially in locations with potential water exposure. The GFI should be of the receptacle type, permanently wired, on a dedicated circuit, rated for Class A (5 mA +/- 1 mA trip current), in good condition, and protected from moisture.
- Drain System: The unit includes either a gravity drain or an internal drain pump. Gravity drain systems require proper venting, no kinks, and a slope to the building drain. Air gaps are typically required by local codes for both drain types.
- Installation Checklist: A checklist is provided to ensure all installation steps, including water supply connection, drain testing, electrical connection, leveling, and removal of packing materials, are completed correctly.
- Service Information: The manual provides contact information for Viking Range Corporation's Preferred Service and advises users to record the model number, serial number, date purchased, and dealer information for future service needs. The model and serial number are located in the upper left interior compartment.
