Why is my Viking Dishwasher chipping or breaking glassware?
    • A
      Andrea PowellSep 9, 2025
If your Viking Dishwasher is causing chipping or breaking of glassware, it is likely due to improper loading. Avoid overloading the dishwasher and load glasses between the prongs, not over them, to ensure they are properly supported. Make sure glassware is secure, and always use the upper rack for delicate items, selecting the light/china cycle.

Why is my Viking Designer 200 leaving spots and film on dishes?
    • K
      kmorganAug 23, 2025
Spotting and filming can occur for several reasons. Ensure the rinse agent dispenser is full. Use the correct amount of dishwasher detergent, considering water hardness and the selected wash program. Load items properly, avoiding overloading, and ensure water reaches all surfaces. For hard water, consider using products designed to eliminate hard water deposits.

How to fix detergent left in the detergent compartment of my Viking Designer 200 Dishwasher?
    • J
      Joe HillAug 25, 2025
If detergent remains in the compartment, improperly loaded items may be blocking the cover. Try moving any dishes that could be obstructing it. Also, if the detergent is hard or caked, discard it and use fresh detergent.

Why does my Viking Designer 200 have spotting and filming?
    • J
      Jennifer DavisAug 27, 2025
If your Viking Dishwasher is leaving spots and film on your dishes, several factors could be the cause. First, check if the rinse agent dispenser needs to be filled. Ensure you're using the correct amount of dishwasher detergent, appropriate for your water hardness and selected wash program; avoid old or caked detergent, and store it properly. Verify that items are loaded correctly, without overloading, allowing water to reach all surfaces. Also, check that both wash arms rotate freely, unobstructed by items or dirt. Inspect and clean the strainer if blocked, and only use dishwasher detergent to prevent excessive foam.

Why are my dishes not dry in my Viking Designer 200?
    • C
      Charles DudleyAug 28, 2025
If your Viking Dishwasher isn't drying dishes properly, there are several potential reasons. When using a non-heat drying option, allow more drying time. Ensure the rinse agent dispenser is full, as rinse agent helps dishes dry faster. Be aware that certain plastic materials are difficult to dry and may require towel drying. Avoid overloading or nesting items, ensuring all surfaces drain well. Load items with concave bases to maximize water runoff, and unload the lower rack first to prevent water from the upper rack from spilling onto the lower dishes.

Why does my Viking Designer 200 leave yellow or brown marks on dishes?
    • E
      emma77Sep 7, 2025
If you notice yellow or brown marks on your dishes after using your Viking Dishwasher, it could be due to iron or manganese in the water. As a temporary solution, pour one teaspoon to one tablespoon of citric acid crystals instead of the prewash detergent, followed by a full detergent wash using the pots/pans or normal wash cycle. For a permanent solution, consider installing an iron removal system in your water supply. Yellow film on sterling silver also results when washing copper items in the same load. Silver polish usually removes the stain. Stains from tea or coffee (tannic acid) can be removed by hand, using a solution of 1/2 cup bleach and 3 cups warm water, but do not use this on sterling silver or silverplate.

Why is my Viking Dishwasher not filling with water?
    • A
      Amy BakerSep 4, 2025
If your Viking Dishwasher isn't filling with water, start by checking that the door is firmly closed and that the dishwasher is turned on. Inspect the water feed line to ensure it is not crimped, and verify that the water supply is available and turned on.

Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for Professional & Designer 200 Series Built-In Dishwashers manufactured by Viking Range Corporation. It provides comprehensive information on the dishwasher's features, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and warranty.

Function Description:

The Viking Built-In Dishwasher is designed to provide powerful and intelligent cleaning for household dishes. It features a multi-level power wash system with two high-quality stainless steel wash arms and a blockproof Flexible-Fluid™ coupling for direct water feed, ensuring thorough cleaning. A five-stage filtration and waste removal system prevents food particle redepositing, delivering 100% filtered water for spot-free dishes. This system includes a removable coarse strainer, Triple-Clean™ filtration with self-cleaning jets, and an ultra-hard food waste disposer. The Sure-Temp™ water heating system, with its HydroFlo™ water heater, automatically adjusts water temperature to the selected setting for optimal washing performance. The dishwasher is engineered for quiet operation, incorporating a quiet motor, separate motor and pump for washing and draining, sound-absorbing insulation, and cushion-mounted components, all contributing to the unique Quiet Clean™ sound package. The interior boasts a Diamond-Brite™ stainless steel tank and inner door, polished for long-term appearance.

Usage Features:

The dishwasher offers "Load-As-You-Like" Sturdi-Bilt™ racks, which are fully usable and removable, made of nylon-coated steel, and can accommodate up to 13 international place settings. The lower rack is ideal for dinner plates, serving plates, larger bowls, pots, and pans, with fold-down tines for large items. Heavily soiled cookware should be placed face down. The upper rack is best for glasses, cups, bowls, small plates, and saucers, accommodating full-sized plates up to 10-1/4". Users should ensure items do not obstruct the wash arm rotation.

Operation involves preparing dishes by removing large solid particles, though rinsing normal food soils is not necessary. For salty or acidic foods, rinsing is recommended if the dishwasher won't be run immediately to prevent corrosion. Before starting, users must load dishes according to recommendations, ensure rinse agent is present, add detergent, select the desired cycle and option(s), press "START," and close the door securely within 4 seconds.

The control panel, located on the top of the door, features various wash cycles:

  • POTS/PANS: For heavily soiled pots, pans, and casserole dishes, with a heated prewash and high-temperature main wash and final rinse.
  • NORMAL WASH: For normally soiled plates, glasses, bowls, and lightly soiled pots and pans.
  • ECONO/CHINA: For normally soiled dishware, china, and crystal, using a lower temperature wash cycle.
  • RINSE/HOLD: A short rinse cycle with no heat, suitable for all dishware.

Available options include:

  • HI TEMP WASH: Increases main wash and final rinse temperatures, potentially adding extra water for improved cleaning. Available on Pots/Pans and Normal cycles.
  • DELAY START: Allows delaying the wash cycle for up to 4 hours. Users select the desired cycle and option(s), then press "DELAY START" repeatedly to choose a 2-hour or 4-hour delay. Not available with Rinse/Hold.

The dishwasher provides an audible sound signal for cycle selection, option activation, and end-of-cycle. Error messages also trigger beeps. If the door is opened during a cycle, the "START" button flashes, indicating Standby Mode; pressing "START" again and closing the door within 4 seconds restarts the cycle. Programs can be changed mid-cycle by opening the door slightly, pressing and holding "START" for four seconds to cancel, then selecting new options, pressing "START," and closing the door.

Detergent usage depends on water hardness, with guidelines provided for soft, medium hard, and hard water. Only detergents designed for automatic dishwashers should be used. The detergent dispenser has compartments for prewash (recommended for Pots/Pans) and main wash. Rinse agent is crucial for preventing spots and improving drying, with a dispenser that holds approximately four ounces and an adjustable dosage setting. Hot water is essential for detergent activation and grease dissolution, with an incoming water temperature of 120°F (49°C) recommended, though the Sure Temp Water Heating System ensures correct temperatures.

Maintenance Features:

The dishwasher is designed for long-term performance through proper care and cleaning. The filtration system, consisting of a coarse strainer and fine filter, continuously filters wash water. While self-cleaning under normal operation, filters may require cleaning after heavy food soil, sediment, or hard water conditions. To clean, users remove the coarse strainer and fine filter, soak them in a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar (or citric cleaner), and ensure they appear bright when clean. The coarse strainer collects large food particles and should be emptied when necessary. It is critical never to operate the dishwasher without the filters in place.

Troubleshooting charts are provided to address common issues such as the dishwasher not starting, spotting and filming, wash arms not rotating freely, strainer blockage, excessive foam, marks and discoloration, small particles on items, yellow or brown marks, discoloration of stainless steel/silverplate, distortion of plastics, and marks on melamine/plastics. Solutions range from checking door closure and water supply to adjusting detergent/rinse agent amounts, cleaning filters, and proper loading techniques. Specific remedies are given for hard water spots, iron/manganese stains, and tea/coffee stains. Fault codes are also listed with corresponding actions, such as resetting the unit or verifying specific components like drain hoses and water supply. The manual also includes instructions for turning the audible sound signal on and off.
