Overview

The VINGTOR ACM Telephone System, specifically the ACM-M-A-V2 model, is an analogue telephone system designed for various communication needs, including internal, external, and public address calls, with several advanced PBX functions. The system utilizes VINGTOR analogue telephones, such as the DT-800M model, which features a standard keypad, volume controls, and dedicated function buttons.

Function Description:

The core functionality of the ACM Telephone System revolves around establishing and managing calls.

Establishing Internal Telephone Calls:

To initiate an internal call, the user lifts the handset and dials the desired phone number. The call is established once the remote phone's handset is lifted. The conversation ends by replacing the handset.

Establishing External Telephone Calls:

For external calls, the user lifts the handset and dials the trunk access code (default 001) to obtain an external dial tone. Optionally, a user and PIN code can be entered for call authorization and billing purposes. After obtaining the dial tone, the external phone number is dialed. The call connects when the remote external phone's handset is lifted. The call is terminated by replacing the handset.

Receiving Calls in Noisy Areas:

In environments with high noise levels, the telephone line can be connected in parallel to a signal unit. This unit provides visual or audio indications for incoming calls, ensuring that calls are not missed. The user simply lifts the handset to answer the call.

Public Address (PA) Calls:

The system supports public address announcements. To make a general PA call without specific zones, the user lifts the handset and dials 84. The system then plays a DING-DONG tone to the PA system, after which the user can speak into the handset for the announcement. The PA call is ended by replacing the handset.

Microphone Mute:

Telephones equipped with a MUTE button allow the user to temporarily block their microphone during a conversation. Pressing and holding the MUTE button mutes the microphone, and releasing it re-opens the microphone.

Re-dial:

For telephones with a REDIAL button, the last dialed number can be redialed. This feature is activated by replacing the handset (or pushing the handset switch), lifting the handset, and then pressing the REDIAL button. It's important to note that the Redial function cannot be used for external calls.

PBX Functions:

The ACM Telephone System offers several advanced PBX functions, particularly for telephones equipped with an "R" button.

Inquiry Call:

During an ongoing conversation, the user can initiate an inquiry call by pressing R+2 and then dialing the number of the desired new phone. The inquiry call is established when the handset on the remote enquired phone is lifted. The user can toggle between the two conversations by pressing R+2 again, parking the other conversation. Both calls are disconnected by replacing the handset.

Call Transfer:

To transfer a call, the user presses R+2 during a conversation and dials the number of the desired transfer destination. Once the handset on the remote enquired phone is lifted, the call is established. Pressing R+3 transfers the call. Replacing the handset withdraws the user from the conversation, leaving the two other phones in conversation.

Call Forwarding:

Users can forward incoming calls to another phone. This is done by lifting the handset, dialing 71, then dialing the remote phone number where calls should be forwarded, and finally pressing the "*" button to confirm. The handset is then replaced. When the user's phone is called, it will ring for approximately 10 seconds before being forwarded if not answered. To cancel call forwarding, the user dials 70 from their own phone.

Follow Me:

The "Follow Me" feature allows calls to be transferred to the phone the user is currently at. To activate, the user lifts the handset on the phone they want calls to be transferred to, dials 72, and then dials their own phone number. The handset is then replaced. When the user's own phone is called, it will ring for about 10 seconds before being transferred to the present phone if not answered. To cancel "Follow Me," the user dials 73 followed by their own phone number.

Busy Notify:

If a called station is busy, the caller can dial 57 or press the "*" button to send an attention tone (3 beeps) to the busy station, notifying them of the incoming call.

Call Priority and Busy Override:

Only a selected set of telephones have the option for busy override. If a caller receives a busy tone, they can dial 58 or "**" for busy override. This action disconnects the other call, and the priority call is then set up.

Important Technical Specifications (based on DT-800M):

The VINGTOR analogue telephone DT-800M, as depicted, includes the following features:

  • Ringing signal Hi/Lo volume: Allows adjustment of the incoming call ring volume.
  • Flash/R switch: Used to select "R" mode, likely for PBX functions.
  • Handset Hi/Lo volume: Controls the earpiece volume during a call.
  • Telephone line, RJ11: Standard connection for the telephone line.
  • Ext. Phone, RJ11: An additional RJ11 port, likely for connecting an external phone or device.
  • Phone list: A dedicated area, possibly for storing or displaying contact information.
  • In use indication: A visual indicator to show when the phone is in use.
  • Microphone mute: A button for muting the microphone.
  • R (or Flash): A button used for PBX functions like inquiry and transfer.
  • Pause (Not used): A button that is present but indicated as not currently in use.
  • Redial: A button to redial the last dialed number.
  • Dial keys: Standard numeric keypad (0-9, *, #).
  • Loudspeaking: Implies a speakerphone function, though a dedicated button isn't explicitly labeled.

Usage Features:

The system is designed for ease of use with clear instructions for common and advanced telephony functions. The presence of dedicated buttons for Mute, Redial, and R (Flash) on compatible telephones streamlines operations. The visual and audio indications for incoming calls, especially in noisy environments, enhance usability. The PBX functions like call forwarding and follow me offer flexibility for users who need to manage their calls effectively across different locations or during busy periods.

Maintenance Features:

The manual does not explicitly detail maintenance features. However, as an analogue telephone system, maintenance would typically involve:

  • Troubleshooting: Basic troubleshooting steps for common issues like no dial tone, inability to make calls, or poor audio quality.
  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the telephone units to ensure hygiene and proper functioning of buttons and handset.
  • Cable Management: Ensuring all RJ11 cables are securely connected and free from damage.
  • System Updates: While not explicitly mentioned for an analogue system, any central PBX unit might require occasional software updates or configuration changes by a technician.
  • Hardware Replacement: In case of component failure, individual telephone units or parts of the central system may need to be replaced.

The document also highlights that STENTOFON and VINGTOR products are developed and marketed by Zenitel Norway AS, which is certified to NS-EN ISO 9001:2002, indicating a commitment to quality assurance.
