Electric sockets
Cigarette lighter
Electric socket
in the
instru-
ment panel
The 12 Volt socket in the cigarette lighter
can be used for other electrical accessories
with a capacity of up to 120 Watts. When
the engine is not running this
will,
however,
discharge the vehicle battery.

Other electric sockets
in the
vehicle
According to the model version, other 12
Volt electric sockets can be found in the
fol-
lowing positions in the vehicle. They can be
used for electrical equipment:
• 2 sockets in the luggage compartment*,
total capacity: max. 180 Watt
• 1 socket behind the the front passenger
seat*, capacity: max. 180 Watt
• 2 sockets in the lower side trims* right
and left next to the seat bench, capacity:
max. 180 Watt.
The battery will discharge when electrical
equipment is used and the engine is not
run-
ning.
These sockets will be supplied by the
addi-
tional battery* on those vehicles where one
is fitted. The additional battery will dis-
charge if electrical equipment is used and
She engine is not running.

Press the lighter button in. The lighter will
spring out when the heating element is hot.
Remove the cigarette lighter immedi-
ately and light your cigarette on the heating
element.
Warning
• Exercise caution when using
the cigarette lighter!
Careless or uncontrolled use of
the cigarette lighter can cause
burns.
The cigarette lighter and the
socket also work when the igni-
tion is switched off and the key
removed.
For this reason children should
never be left in the vehicle on
their own.

Ashtray
Front
Removing:
Pull ashtray fully to rear, press the button on
the underside to disengage and take the
ashtray out.
Replacing:
Insert ashtray in guides and then push fully
in.
Rear
^Caravelle and Kombi
V Removing:
Open ashtray, press down and take out.
Replacing:
Insert ashtray in from above and then push
fully in.
Multivan
Removing:
Open ashtray by pressing the cover and re-
move the insert.
Replacing:
Insert ashtray and then push fully in.
Warning
Never use the ashtrays as paper
containers. Fire hazard!

Dropside (Pick-up)
To lower the dropsides pull locking handle
outwards until the pin is clear of retaining
hole then swing handle down.
On vehicles with support cables for
the tailboard do not place more than
150 kg on tailboard when it is down.
Warning
The tail lights are not visible
when the tailboard is lowered.
Therefore, if lights are required,
other safety measures should be
employed, e.g. warning lights.
Note legal requirements when employing
such safety measures.
