10. If necessary, on engines equipped with elec-
tronic steering, check the fuse for the steering
control unit. This fuse is located near the battery
or the engine’s main battery switch. Each steer-
ing control unit has one fuse.
If the fuse is burned out, replace it now. If the
fuse continues to burn out, there is a problem
with the steering system and it must be serviced
by an authorized Volvo Penta dealer.

Audible Alarm
If an audible alarm
(2)
has been installed on your boat,
it will perform a brief self-test when the ignition key is
turned to the RUN position. Following is a description
of how the alarm performs the self test.
EFI Engines – When the ignition switch is turned to
RUN (key on, engine off), the alarm emits three short
beeps to indicate that the ECM is performing a check
of the sensors. If there are any problems detected by
the ECM, the alarm will sound; otherwise, it will remain
off.
2. While Volvo Penta provides an audible alarm with every engine,
its installation is determined by the manufacturer of your boat. If your
boat does not have an audible alarm available, we strongly recom-
mend that you contact your dealer to have one installed.
