Overview

The Vornado VMHi300 is a whole room heater designed to provide efficient and consistent heating for indoor living spaces. This heater is built with a focus on safety, durability, and user-friendly operation, ensuring a comfortable environment while adhering to strict safety standards.

Function Description

The primary function of the Vornado VMHi300 is to heat and circulate air throughout a room. It utilizes Vornado's signature whole room heat circulation, which is designed to move warm air evenly across the entire space, eliminating cold spots. The heater offers two heat modes: High Heat and Low Heat, allowing users to select the desired intensity based on their comfort needs and the room's temperature. An integrated thermostat enables precise temperature control; users can set the thermostat to their preferred comfort level, and the heater will cycle on and off to maintain that temperature. A power indicator light illuminates when the heater is in operation, providing a visual cue of its status.

Safety is a paramount feature of the VMHi300. It incorporates a multi-level safety shut-off system that automatically turns off the heater in case of overheating, which can occur if airflow is blocked. This thermal cutout safety feature requires a manual reset if activated. Additionally, the heater is equipped with automatic tip-over protection, which cuts power if the unit is accidentally knocked over, restoring power once it is placed back in an upright position. The construction of the heater is metal, forged from steel, making it fire-resistant while remaining cool to the touch on its exterior, except for the front grille. The front grille is designed to be finger-friendly, resisting curious fingers, but users are warned that it becomes hot during use and cool-down, requiring caution.

The Vornado VMHi300 is intended for floor use only and is not suitable for commercial or industrial applications. It should not be used in bathrooms, laundry areas, or other damp locations. The product's power cord is a grounded, heavy-duty three-prong cord, designed for a secure connection to a standard 120-volt electrical outlet. It is crucial to plug the heater directly into a wall outlet and avoid using extension cords, surge protectors, or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupted (GFCI) outlets, as these can lead to circuit overload or fire hazards.

Usage Features

Operating the Vornado VMHi300 is straightforward. Before initial use, users should inspect the appliance for any visible damage. If damage is found, Vornado Air LLC should be contacted. The heater features an integrated handle on top for easy lifting and carrying, facilitating placement in the desired location. When positioning the heater, it is important to ensure that airflow is not obstructed to allow for optimal performance and to prevent the activation of safety shut-off systems.

To begin operation, the power cord should be unwrapped from its storage tray on the back of the heater and plugged into a standard grounded wall outlet. The control dial is used to select the desired mode (High Heat or Low Heat). After selecting a mode, the thermostat should be turned clockwise to its highest setting. Once the room reaches the desired comfort level, the thermostat can be slowly turned counterclockwise until the heat cycles off. The heater will then maintain this temperature by cycling on and off as needed.

It is important to always unplug the heater when it is not in use, before moving or cleaning it, or during electrical storms. The product should be placed at least three feet away from electrical outlets, furniture, bedding, papers, clothes, curtains, and other flammable objects. Soft surfaces like beds should be avoided as placement locations to prevent blockage of air intakes or exhaust. The heater should always be operated in an upright position on an even and stable surface.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the performance and longevity of the Vornado VMHi300, especially given that it moves a substantial amount of air, which can accumulate dust. Vornado recommends cleaning the outside of the heater on a weekly basis.

Before any cleaning, the heater must be unplugged from the electrical outlet. For the front outlet grille, a brush attachment on a household vacuum cleaner can be used to remove any accumulated dust. Similarly, the inlet filter on the back of the heater, which is not removable, should also be vacuumed with a brush attachment to clear dust. The entire heater can then be wiped down with a soft, dry cloth. It is crucial to avoid using gasoline, thinners, solvents, ammonias, or other chemicals for cleaning, as these can damage the product.

Periodically, it is recommended to blow out the heater with pressurized air. This helps to keep the heat element and motor clear of dust, hair, and debris that can build up inside the unit during use. This practice also helps to eliminate unwanted odors caused by the accumulation of these particles.

In the event that the heater stops working due to overheating, the thermal cutout safety feature will have activated. To reset the heater, first, turn the heater off and unplug the power cord. Then, remove any obstructions that may have caused the overheating. Allow the heater to cool down for 5-10 minutes. After cooling, plug the power cord back in, place the heater in the desired position, and power it on. The heater should then function normally. If the safety shut-off system repeatedly activates or if the heater does not reset after following these steps, Vornado Consumer Services should be contacted.

For storage during the off-season or extended periods of non-use, it is recommended to unplug the power cord, wrap it, and slide it into the storage tray on the back of the heater. The heater should then be covered or placed back in its original retail carton, if available, to prevent dust accumulation. Store the unit in a cool and dry location.

The Vornado VMHi300 is designed for durability and ease of maintenance, ensuring a long product life with proper care. Any service or repairs not covered by the warranty should be performed by a Vornado Authorized Service Center to avoid risk of shock and to maintain product integrity. Users are advised not to open the appliance housing while it is plugged in or to modify the product with any aftermarket accessories.
