The Vortex Razor AMG UH-1 is a holographic sight designed for rapid and instinctual target acquisition, offering robust performance and durability. Its primary function is to provide a clear and precise aiming point for firearms, enhancing accuracy across various distances and lighting conditions.
The UH-1 utilizes holographic technology to project a reticle onto a shatterproof sight window. This technology ensures absolute zero image distortion, providing an unobstructed view of the target. The sight is equipped with XR plus fully multi-coated windows and holographic elements, which are engineered for exceptional durability and optimal light transmission. All sensitive internal components are securely housed within the base of the sight, a design choice that not only increases overall durability but also eliminates the need for an external, obstructive secondary shroud. This integrated design contributes to a sleeker profile and a wider field of view.
The holographic reticle, specifically the EBR-CQB, is designed for versatility. It features a center dot for zeroing the rifle and for targeting at distances ranging from 25 to 400 yards/meters. Additionally, a bottom triangle serves as the point of impact for close-quarters distances of 10 yards/meters or less. This dual-purpose reticle allows for quick transitions between different engagement ranges without requiring complex adjustments.
Operating the UH-1 is straightforward. To power on the device, users can press either of the two on/off buttons. Upon activation, the sight defaults to a middle illumination setting. There are 15 brightness settings available, allowing users to adjust the reticle's intensity from extreme low light to bright daytime conditions. These adjustments are made using the plus and minus buttons. To power off the sight, both on/off buttons must be pressed simultaneously.
The UH-1 incorporates an Auto Shut Off feature, which automatically turns off the sight after 14 hours of inactivity (no button presses). This feature helps conserve battery life. Users have the option to disable the Auto Shut Off by pressing the minus button for 5 seconds; the reticle will blink twice to confirm the change. To re-enable it, the plus button is pressed for 5 seconds, and the reticle will blink three times. It is important to note that if the Auto Shut Off is disabled, users must manually turn off the sight to prevent the battery from draining completely.
Windage and elevation adjustments are crucial for zeroing the sight to a specific firearm. These adjustments are made using knobs that can be turned with a coin or other flat-head item. Each click of the adjustment knobs changes the point of aim by approximately ½ MOA when zeroing. Specifically, ½ MOA corresponds to 1/8-inch (3.18mm) at 25 yards (23.75 meters) and 1/4-inch (6.35mm) at 50 yards (47.5 meters). A full rotation of either knob will change the point of aim by approximately 16.5 MOA, which translates to 8.25 inches at 50 yards or 16.5 inches at 100 yards. Users should be aware that increased resistance during adjustment indicates the end of the adjustment range, and no further turning should be attempted.
The UH-1 is powered by a CR123A battery. It is also compatible with the LFP123A, a high-end rechargeable version of the CR123A. The LFP123A battery can be recharged directly within the sight using the integrated Micro USB port. While the LFP123A offers the convenience of recharging, it may not provide as long a continuous use life as a standard CR123A battery.
A low battery condition is indicated by the reticle beginning to pulse. When charging an LFP123A battery, the reticle will pulse back and forth between dim and bright, with the pulsing brightness levels being one setting above and one setting below the "on" setting. If the sight is turned on with a low battery, it will immediately enter this pulsing function for 5 seconds and will continue to pulse unless the user cycles between two brightness settings to cancel it. For a standard CR123A battery, this low battery condition typically occurs when approximately 25 hours of battery life remain. For an LFP123A battery, it occurs when about one hour of battery life is left. These estimates are based on a temperature of 70° F, and actual battery life may vary depending on ambient conditions.
Replacing the battery is a simple process. The snag-free battery cap can be removed by inserting a nickel into the slot and turning it counterclockwise. A "-" symbol on the unit indicates the correct battery direction. Special threads are designed to hold the cap securely in place, preventing it from backing out due to recoil.
The UH-1 is designed for minimal maintenance. The primary maintenance task involves periodically cleaning the exterior lenses. For this, a soft, dry cloth is recommended. When cleaning, it is important to use products specifically designed for coated optical lenses, such as a Vortex Lens Pen, Fog Free Cleaning kits, or the included microfiber cloth. Before wiping, any dust or grit should be blown off the lens surface to prevent scratching. For stubborn marks like dried water spots, a small amount of water or pure alcohol, or even the user's breath, can be used.
The device is classified as a Class 1 Laser Product, complying with IEC 60825-1:2014-05 Ed.3.0 and IEC 60825-1:2007-03 Ed. 2.0. Users are cautioned that using controls, adjustments, or performing procedures other than those specified in the manual may result in hazardous laser radiation exposure.
