This document describes the VOSS.farming XTREME duo RF electric fence energiser, available in models X110 RF, X130 RF, X150 RF, and X200 RF (Art. 41550/41555/41560/41565).

Function Description

The VOSS.farming XTREME duo RF is a powerful electric fence energiser designed to supply electricity to an electric fence system. It creates both a "physical" and "psychological" barrier for animals, deterring them with short, high-voltage pulses. This makes it suitable for enclosing livestock and deterring wild animals, while also serving as a visual marker for property boundaries. The device is intended for both private and commercial use.

These energisers are particularly effective for long fences and those with heavy vegetation, where maximum efficiency and reliability are crucial. An integrated microprocessor controls the entire operation, optimising performance based on the fence's condition. During operation, the fence load is continuously measured, and the output power is automatically adjusted to maintain the desired output voltage within the maximum load range. This dynamic adjustment optimises energy consumption: a well-maintained fence with minimal overgrowth will consume less energy, while poorer fence systems will automatically receive more power. This contributes to energy savings when high-quality fences are used.

For energisers with an output exceeding 5J, special safety requirements are met through a time delay for power increases. The VOSS.farming XTREME duo RF energisers have a 50-second time delay. If the fence is under strain and its resistance drops below 500 ohms (e.g., due to heavy overgrowth or fallen branches), the energiser will supply a maximum of 5J for 50 seconds. If the resistance does not increase within this period, the output energy will gradually increase (e.g., up to 15J for the XTREME X200 RF model).

An additional warning function is triggered if the fence is suddenly placed under strain. If the fence resistance abruptly drops from over 1000 ohms to less than 400 ohms within a single pulse (e.g., due to fallen branches, a trapped animal, or person), an alarm is activated after six pulses. A beep sounds, the red LED flashes, and the pulse interval slows to 3 seconds. The alarm deactivates when the fence resistance increases to over 600 ohms or after 10 minutes. Both functions operate independently.

The device can be powered either via a 230V mains connection or a 12V battery. It features two watertight screw connectors for power input. While mains power is preferred, a battery can be used as a backup in case of power failure.

Usage Features

The energiser features a digital LCD display (11) and a BARGRAPH (10) to show fence voltage. An LED control lamp (8) indicates the device's status:

Permanently lit: Mains power operation.
Flashing: Battery operation.
Blue: High power operation (100%).
Violet: Reduced power operation (up to max. 5J).
Red: Warning or error (e.g., battery voltage below 12V or sudden fence strain).

The device has three buttons:

On/off button (5):
- Hold (> 2 sec) to switch on/off.
- Brief press to enter standby mode (transmission to Fence Manager remains active).
- Hold (> 2 sec) to switch between output levels when on.
- Hold (> 5 sec) to activate pairing mode from standby.
Enter button (6):
- Brief press to adjust values or confirm settings.
- Brief press to switch between displayed parameters (output voltage, battery voltage, power output, grounding voltage).
Settings button (7):
- Brief press to switch between basic and information displays.
- Hold (> 2 sec) to open the main menu (Settings, Pairing, Factory setting).

The information display (6.5) shows fence resistance (numerical) and vegetation status (graphical) in addition to selectable parameters. The yellow fence connection (13) can be used for younger/sensitive animals or in combination with the red connection (12) for separate conductors on a multi-wire fence.

The device can be paired with VOSS.farming Fence Manager FM10 and FM20 WiFi. Pairing can be done remotely (FM20 WiFi only) or via direct connection. The pairing code is valid for 4 hours.

Maintenance Features

The VOSS.farming XTREME duo RF is designed for low maintenance. Regular visual inspections are recommended to check for damage. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit.

Cleaning:

Clean regularly with a soft cloth and water.
Do not use aggressive solvents, brushes, or sharp objects, as these can damage the surface.
Do not immerse the device in water or other liquids to avoid short circuits.

Troubleshooting:

LED control lamp flashing red: Battery voltage below 12V. Replace with a charged battery or connect to 230V mains.
LED control lamp flashing red and alarm sounding: Battery voltage below 11.6V (replace battery or connect to mains) or sudden fence strain/reduced voltage (identify and remove cause).
No display on LED control lamp: Device manually switched off, or battery voltage below 11.4V (device automatically switched off to prevent deep discharge). Replace battery or connect to mains. Red LED remains lit until battery reaches 12V.
Power leakage/short-circuit: Use high-voltage cable (Art. 32611) for fence connection, not conventional cables.
Poor grounding: Check grounding rods for corrosion, cable connections for integrity. Add more grounding rods if needed (refer to section 7.3 for tips on proper grounding).
Voltage loss/leakage from fence: Remove vegetation, check insulators for defects (cracking/sparking), ensure conductor material is not touching the ground or loose. Use high-quality conductor material and proper connectors.
Insufficient fence voltage: Fence too long. Reduce area or use a more powerful energiser.
Grounding voltage not displayed: No grounding post connected to the green connector (14) or fence resistance > 500 ohms.
Error E1: Fault in output voltage measurement. Fence system not working correctly. Energiser power limited to 5J, grounding measurement not performed. Contact service.

For optimal performance, ensure proper grounding by choosing a damp, vegetated area and using galvanised metal posts (min. 75 cm long). For dry soil or long fences, install additional grounding posts 2-3m apart. The fence supply cable should be high-voltage resistant, and underground cables should be laid in protective tubes. Warning signs are mandatory on public roads and paths, placed every 100m.
