Read this Manual BEFORE using this equipment.
Failure to read and follow all safety and use information
can result in death, serious personal injury, property
damage, or damage to the equipment.
Keep this Manual for future reference.
Local building or plumbing codes may require modifications
to the information provided. You are required to consult the
local building and plumbing codes prior to installation. If
the information provided here is not consistent with local
building or plumbing codes, the local codes should be
followed. This product must be installed by a licensed
contractor in accordance with local codes and ordinances.
Need for Periodic Inspection/Maintenance: This product
must be tested periodically in compliance with local codes, but
at least once per year or more as service conditions warrant.
All products must be retested once maintenance has been
performed. Corrosive water conditions and/or unauthorized
adjustments or repair could render the product ineffective for the
service intended. Regular checking and cleaning of the product’s
internal and external components helps assure maximum life and
proper product function.
NOTICE
If an assembly is recommended where installation may be
problematic, the assembly must be protected and secured. Remove
the handles of shutoff valves to discourage tampering, or install a
protective enclosure to discourage vandals. When opting for an
enclosure, install the protective cover so that adequate clearance is
available for maintenance and testing. Consult local codes before
installing any type of protective enclosure.
Series 860 is designed to protect drinking water supplies from
dangerous cross-connections in accordance with national plumbing
codes and water authority requirements for non-potable service
applications. The Lead Free series are used in potable drinking
water systems where code mandates protection from backpressure
and backsiphonage conditions. Series 860 Small and LF860 Small
each include a flood sensor on the relief valve to detect excessive
discharge.
860-FS
NOTICE
An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor.
Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component
and has no communication with any other device. (A retrofit sensor
connection kit is also available for existing installations. See “Add-on
and Retrofit Sensor Connection Kits,” for ordering details.)
NOTICE
Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all
required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation,
operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to
provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

What to do if Watts FEBCO 860 relief valve continuously discharges during flow and no flow conditions?
    • D
      donna85Jul 29, 2025
If the Watts Plumbing Product's relief valve is continuously discharging during both flow and no-flow conditions, it could be due to a few reasons. The seat disc might be dislodged from its cavity in the main stem, possibly caused by pressure surges when initially filling the system lines; in this case, try repositioning the disc and slowly repressurizing the system. Alternatively, debris might be fouling the relief valve seat, or dirt/scale could be jamming the main stem. Inspect and clean these components, or replace them if necessary.

Why is my Watts FEBCO 860 Plumbing Product relief valve continuously discharging during no flow conditions?
    • T
      Tina CastanedaAug 3, 2025
If your Watts Plumbing Product experiences a continuous discharge from the relief valve when there is no flow, but the discharge stops when water is flowing, several issues could be the cause. Debris might be fouling check valve No. 1, so inspect and clean it. The spring stem might not be moving freely due to dirt or foreign material, so inspect for that. There could also be damage to the seat or seat disc, which would require inspection and possible replacement; note that the seat disc can be reversed in sizes ½" to 2". Finally, check for leakage at the check module O-ring and replace the seal or O-ring if needed.

What causes low pressure drop in Watts FEBCO 860 Check No. 1 during testing?
    • L
      laura68Aug 8, 2025
If Check No. 1 pressure drop is low (less than 5 psid) during field testing of your Watts Plumbing Product, it could be due to several reasons. Debris might be fouling the first check seat, so you should inspect and clean it. Inlet pressure variations may be causing inaccurate gauge readings; eliminate these variations by installing a soft-seated, spring-loaded check on the upstream side of the device. Also, inspect for a damaged seat or seat disc, cleaning or replacing as needed, and check for a worn guide, bushing, or stem, replacing them as required.

How to fix a Watts Plumbing Product relief valve that doesn't open during field testing?
    • C
      Clarence RogersAug 13, 2025
If the Watts Plumbing Product relief valve doesn't open above 2.0 psid during field testing, make sure the outlet gate valve is fully closed, and if not, inspect and clean it. Also, check for improper alignment of internal parts during reassembly, which can cause high resistance to movement; reassemble the parts correctly. Lastly, debris blocking the gate valve could be jamming the main stem, so clean it.

Why does my Watts Plumbing Product relief valve intermittently discharge with no flow?
    • V
      Vincent WilcoxAug 18, 2025
If you're experiencing intermittent discharge from the relief valve of your Watts Plumbing Product when there is no flow, it could be due to inlet line pressure variations causing the relief valve to discharge. Try to eliminate or reduce these pressure variations by installing a soft-seated, spring-loaded check on the upstream side of the device. Another cause could be pressure surges (water hammer) causing the relief valve to discharge as the pressure wave passes through the zone; in this case, eliminate or reduce the pressure surges.

What causes Watts FEBCO 860 Plumbing Product Check No. 2 to fail during field testing?
    • L
      Lauren RodriguezAug 23, 2025
If Check No. 2 fails to hold back pressure during field testing of your Watts Plumbing Product, it could be caused by the outlet gate valve not being completely closed, so inspect and clean it. Alternatively, the seat or seat disc may be damaged, requiring inspection and replacement if needed.
