Series W-AR actuator is widely used in auto-control system to
regulate the opening rate of electronic valves. Along with Series
W-PICV valve body, the actuator is able to control the system’s
temperature, pressure and flow through receiving different kinds of
signals.

Series W-AR
Working Principle
Modulation Type W-AR2M
The modulation type electric actuator can realize equal percentage
flow control. By inputting 0 (2) - 10VDC and 0 (4) - 20mA control
signals, the feedback output signal of valve position can be
observed, and the automatic regulation and control of pipeline fluid
medium can be realized, which makes the application of control valve
more flexible. After the modulation type electric actuator is powered
on, by pressing the SW1 learning / reset button on the shell, the
actuator will firstly go down to find the valve closing position, and
then reverse the upward direction to return to the reference position
and stop. After the self-adaptation is completed, it will automatically
enter the operation state. MCU (chip) will automatically save the
parameters obtained during learning, and it will not be lost even after
power failure. At this time, the driver power indicator on long time
light indicates that the self-adaptive is over, and the coordination and
adjustment of valve body and driver are completed. Currently, the
running direction of the driver is controlled by the control signal.
When the driver is powered on, press the SW1 learning / reset button
on the shell to enter the adaptive state if it needs to be adaptive.
On-off Type W-AR1S
The W-AR1S motorized actuator accepts two-wire and one–control
on/off type control. When the power is switched on, the actuator
drives the screw downwards one-way to close the valve. When the
external power is cut off, auto reset is triggered electronically to drive
the screw upwards to keep the valve open.

Overview

The Watts Series W-AR Electric Actuator is designed for auto-control systems to regulate the opening rate of electronic valves. When paired with a Series W-PICV valve body, it can control system temperature, pressure, and flow by responding to various signals.

Function Description

The actuator comes in two main types: Modulation Type W-AR2M and On/Off Type W-AR1S.

Modulation Type W-AR2M: This type provides equal percentage flow control. It accepts 0(2)-10VDC and 0(4)-20mA control signals and outputs a feedback signal of valve position, enabling automatic regulation of pipeline fluid medium. This makes the control valve application highly flexible. Upon power-up, pressing the SW1 learning/reset button initiates a self-adaptation process. The actuator first drives the screw downwards to find the valve's closing position, then reverses upwards to a reference position and stops. Once self-adaptation is complete, it enters operational state. The MCU (chip) automatically saves the learned parameters, which are retained even after power loss. A continuously lit driver power indicator signifies that self-adaptation is complete and the valve body and driver are coordinated. The running direction is controlled by the input signal. If re-adaptation is needed, the SW1 button can be pressed again.

On/Off Type W-AR1S: This motorized actuator accepts two-wire, one-control on/off signals. When powered on, the actuator drives the screw downwards to close the valve. When external power is cut off, an electronic auto-reset mechanism drives the screw upwards to open the valve.

Usage Features

  • Easy On-Site Debugging: The design allows for debugging without removing the actuator shell.

  • Manual Operation: Aids in on-site troubleshooting.
  • Precise Positioning: Achieved through a self-calibration function.
  • Installation: The actuator's screw is preset upwards (fully open valve position) at the factory for direct connection. If tested electrically and set downwards, it must be reset to the top via power-on or manual operation before installation. Sufficient space above the actuator is required for disassembly and maintenance. The actuator must be protected from water leakage. Manual operation is forbidden when the actuator is powered on.

Maintenance Features

  • Self-Stroking (W-AR2M): No housing disassembly is required. Pressing the Learn/Reset Button SW1 after power-on initiates self-stroking. The actuator drives the screw down to find the closing position, then up to the preset position, entering operational status. The MCU saves these parameters, which are retained even after power loss.
  • Control Signal and Status Shift (W-AR2M): To adjust control functions, disassemble the housing, set the JP1 switch according to the desired functions, then press the SW1 Learn/Reset button. The indicator light flashes during learning, and once self-stroking is complete, it stops flashing and remains on, indicating operational status.
