Overview

This document is an operating and maintenance manual for the Weber MT SM 57-2 joint cutter. It provides comprehensive information for familiarization, proper use, and maintenance of the machine.

Function Description

The SM 57-2 joint cutter is designed for cutting work on roads and buildings, specifically for bituminous material (road surfaces) and concrete. It is propelled by an air-cooled Honda gasoline engine (Type GX 270) with power transferred to the cutting shaft mechanically via a V-belt. The engine is started using an attached reversing starter, and its speed is set directly on the engine. Cutting depth is pre-set using a scale and adjusted by actuating a pedal to lower the cutting disk. Water from a tank is supplied to mix with and bind the dust generated during cutting. The machine is steered using a manual guidance rod.

Usage Features

  • Safety: Operators must be at least 18 years old, instructed in guiding the joint cutter, and comply with traffic regulations. The machine should only be operated in technically faultless condition with all protective fixtures mounted and functional. Regular checks for defects are required. Protective equipment such as hearing protection, hard hat, safety shoes, and protective gloves are mandatory.
  • Cutting Depth Adjustment: The cutting depth is set using a tommy screw at the adjusting spindle. This adjustment is only permitted when the engine is not running.
  • Cutting Disk Mounting: The diamond disk must be mounted ensuring the correct direction of rotation (arrow marking). The holding flange must be clean and free of rust, sawing sludge, or damage to prevent wobbling.
  • Starting Procedure: Turn the short-circuit button to "ON," open the fuel cock, bring the gas lever to full-throttle, and slide the choke lever to the left (close). The engine is started by slowly tightening the reversing starter handle until resistance is felt, then allowing it to glide back and pulling it forcefully. Once the engine warms up, the choke lever is slid to the right (open).
  • Cutting Operation: Align the pointer to the marked cut line. Ensure continuous water supply to bind dust. Actuate the foot pedal to lower the cutting disk to the preset depth once the drive motor reaches operating speed.
  • Shutting Down: Bring the gas lever to idle, close the fuel cock, turn the short-circuit button to "OFF," and close the water cock.
  • Transport: Secure the joint cutter with suitable restraints when transporting on a vehicle. Use lifting machines with a minimum bearing capacity of 100 kg, attaching a round sling to the handrail rod.

Maintenance Features

The manual outlines a detailed maintenance schedule to ensure reliability and service life. Only original Weber spare parts should be used.

  • Daily/Every 8 Operating Hours:
    • Clean air filter insert, check for damage, replace if necessary.
    • Check engine oil level.
  • After the first 25 Operating Hours:
    • Change engine oil.
    • Adjust valve play.
    • Re-tighten all accessible threaded connections.
  • Every 50 Operating Hours/Every 6 Months:
    • Change engine oil.
    • Check spark plug.
    • Check tension of V-belt.
  • Every 150 Operating Hours/Every Year:
    • Adjust valve play.
    • Replace spark plug.
    • Lubricate the cutting shaft.
  • General Maintenance Guidelines:
    • Comply with engine manufacturer's regulations.
    • Use regulation tools.
    • Use collection vessels for fluids to prevent spills.
    • Dispose of operating fluids, greases, oil-soaked cloths, and replaced parts in an environmentally friendly manner.
    • Clean affected skin immediately with suitable cleaning agent if lubricating oils or fuel come into contact with skin.
    • Check condition and stability of all screws during maintenance.
    • Engine Oil Change: Drain engine oil only when at operating temperature. Remove oil dipstick and drain screw. Refill according to specifications.
    • Air Filter Maintenance: Remove air filter cover and insert. Clean or replace the insert as specified by the engine manufacturer.
    • V-belt Check: Remove V-belt guard and cutting disk protection. Check V-belts for cracks, damaged flanks, or wear. Replace if excessive wear is found.
  • Long-term Storage (longer than a month):
    • Clean the entire joint cutter thoroughly and check for watertightness. Correct any leaks.
    • Empty the fuel tank and fill with clean fuel up to the lower edge of the filler neck.
    • Check engine oil level and fill to upper mark if necessary.
    • Check, clean, or replace the air filter.
    • Check and change the fuel filter if necessary.
    • Oil/grease all bare parts, accelerator, accelerator control cable, and fastening bolts.
    • For storage longer than six months, contact Weber service organization for additional measures.
  • Troubleshooting: A table provides common faults (e.g., joint cutter will not start), possible causes (operating error, lack of fuel, fouled fuel filter, fouled air filter), and remedies (execute start process, check fuel level, clean fuel filter, clean/change air filter cartridge).
