Overview

The Wet Sounds WS-MC-5 is a 1-piece marine receiver designed to provide a comprehensive audio experience in marine environments. This owner's manual outlines its features, controls, setup, and maintenance, ensuring users can fully enjoy their product.

Function Description

The WS-MC-5 serves as a central audio hub for marine vessels, offering multiple source options and robust audio processing capabilities. It integrates AM/FM radio, Bluetooth streaming, and auxiliary input, allowing users to access a wide range of audio content. The device is equipped with an internal power amplifier, capable of delivering 4x50W at 2 Ohm Max Output, providing ample power for marine speaker systems. For more extensive audio setups, it also features front and rear preamp outputs with fading capability, allowing connection to external amplifiers. A unique aspect of the WS-MC-5 is its front panel-mounted independent secondary zone control, which can be configured for either full-range or subwoofer output, offering flexible audio distribution within the vessel. The unit's display is a 2.7" LCD, providing clear visual feedback for all operations.

Usage Features

Operating the WS-MC-5 is intuitive, primarily through its Main Control Knob (MCK) and a set of dedicated buttons. The MCK is central to navigation and selection, allowing users to adjust the main volume, highlight features in setup and menu modes, and confirm selections by depressing the knob.

Power and Mute: A press and hold of the Power/Mute button turns the unit on or off. A short press mutes or unmutes the volume across all zones, with confirmation displayed on the screen.

Setup Menu: The Setup button grants access to global controls affecting all MC-5 functions. Users rotate the MCK to highlight a desired function and then depress it to access.

  • Audio Adjustments: Within the Audio menu, users can fine-tune the sound.
    • Balance/Fader: This allows adjustment of the left/right balance and front/rear fader for both powered and pre-amp outputs. The MCK is used to highlight and then adjust these settings.
    • Equalization: The MC-5 offers five factory equalization settings for its 5-band equalizer. Users can select one of these or choose "off" to manually set their own equalization curve by rotating and depressing the MCK to select a band and then adjusting it.
    • Internal AMP: For systems utilizing solely external amplifiers, this control can be set to "off" to bypass the MC-5's internal amplifier, enhancing efficiency.
    • Zone 2: This feature allows users to label the zone 2 output as either "Full Range" or "Subwoofer." It's important to note that this only changes the display label; the zone 2 output is always a mixed mono output, even when set to full range.
  • Tuner Region: The MC-5 is defaulted to the USA region for broadcasts, but a Europe region setting is also available.
  • Day/Night Mode: This setting allows users to cycle through display options: Day (white screen/black characters), Night (black screen/white characters), or Auto. In Auto mode, the display is in Day mode until the vehicle's lights are turned on, at which point it switches to Night mode. For Auto mode to function correctly, the Orange wire labeled "Dim Input" in the MC-5 harness must be wired to a circuit that receives +12V when the main lighting switch is activated.

Menu Button: In Radio mode, the Menu button provides access to presets.

Zone 2 Controls: Dedicated buttons for "Zone 2 -" and "Zone 2 +" allow users to decrease or increase the output sent to the zone 2 pre-amp outputs. The main volume control, however, retains overall override capability for front, rear, and zone 2 outputs.

Track/Tuner Seek Controls:

  • Track Back/Tuner Seek Down: In Bluetooth mode, this button navigates to the previous track. In Radio mode, it seeks out the next strongest station in decreasing frequency order.
  • Track Forward/Tuner Seek Up: In Bluetooth mode, this button advances to the next track. In Radio mode, it seeks out the next strongest station in increasing frequency order.

Source (SRC) Button: This button allows users to switch between the three available audio sources: Radio, Bluetooth, and Auxiliary.

Band Button: In Radio mode, the Band button cycles through FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, and AM2 modes.

Play/Pause Button: Active during Bluetooth streaming, a single press pauses playback, and another press resumes it. This button also enables switching between presets in the various FM/AM radio modes.

Source Operation Details:

  • Radio Operation: After selecting the radio source via SRC, users can change bands with the Band button. Short presses of the seek buttons (#7/#8) automatically find the next strongest station, while long presses enable manual tuning. The Menu button in Radio Operation provides access to:
    • PRESETS: Displays current band presets, allowing selection via the MCK.
    • ADD PRESETS: Manually adds station presets to each band.
    • AUTO STORE: Automatically stores presets into the currently active band.
  • Bluetooth Streaming Operation: After selecting the Bluetooth source via SRC, ensure no other devices are paired and Bluetooth is enabled on the device. Search for "WETSOUNDS MC5" on the device's Bluetooth menu and connect. The MC-5 will confirm the connection. Play/Pause and Track Forward/Reverse controls are active in this mode.
  • AUX Operation: Simply select the AUX source via the SRC button to access the auxiliary input.

Maintenance Features

The WS-MC-5 includes features to help manage its software and settings.

  • Software Menu: Accessed through the Setup menu, this allows users to view the current software version. Wet Sounds encourages users to visit their website (www.wetsounds.com/downloads) for the latest MC-5 operating software updates.
  • Factory Default: This option, also found in the Setup menu, allows users to reset all MC-5 settings back to their original factory configuration.
