Overview

This document describes the Whirlpool AWM 4066 washing machine, a home appliance designed for washing various types of laundry.

Function Description

The Whirlpool AWM 4066 is a washing machine that offers a range of programs and options to effectively clean different fabrics and soil levels. The machine operates by moving the program selector knob clockwise through phases such as prewash, main wash, rinse, and spin. Each phase can last from a few seconds to several minutes. Users can select specific wash programs, adjust temperature, and choose additional options like "Half Load," "No Spin," "Rinse Hold," and "Gentle Wash." The machine automatically locks the door after a program starts and releases it approximately one minute after the program ends or if the electricity supply is interrupted. It also includes safety features such as an imbalance detection and correction system to protect the appliance during spin cycles.

Important Technical Specifications

The washing machine has minimum housing dimensions of 600 mm width, 850 mm height, and 600 mm depth. It requires a cold water supply with a pressure of 100-1000 kPa (1-10 bar) and a 3/4" threaded hose connection. The drain hose should be connected to a siphon or hooked over a sink edge with a "U" bend, with a minimum drain height of 60 cm and a maximum U-bend drain height of 90 cm. The maximum overall drain hose length, if an extension is used, is 2.5 m. Electrical connections must be earthed and comply with local regulations, using a 13 amp fused plug (BS 1363A) for Great Britain and Ireland, or a 16 A fuse/circuit breaker for other plug types. The appliance operates on a mains supply, and voltage, power consumption, and electrical protection data are provided on the inside of the appliance door.

Consumption Data (based on maximum temperature selection without special options):

  • Cotton with prewash (95°C): 5.0 kg load, 80 L water, 2.00 kWh energy, 120 min duration.
  • Cotton (95°C): 5.0 kg load, 70 L water, 1.80 kWh energy, 110 min duration.
  • Cotton (60°C): 5.0 kg load, 70 L water, 1.20 kWh energy, 110 min duration.
  • Synthetics (60°C): 2.0 kg load, 60 L water, 0.90 kWh energy, 85 min duration.
  • Cotton short (40°C): 2.5 kg load, 65 L water, 0.70 kWh energy, 75 min duration.
  • Synthetics short (40°C): 2.5 kg load, 60 L water, 0.60 kWh energy, 75 min duration.
  • Delicate (40°C): 1.5 kg load, 80 L water, 0.60 kWh energy, 70 min duration.
  • Wool (40°C): 1.0 kg load, 80 L water, 0.60 kWh energy, 65 min duration.

Usage Features

  • Program Selection: The machine offers programs for Cotton (with/without prewash), Synthetic, Cotton short, Synthetic short, Delicate, and Wool. These programs vary in temperature (Min to 95°C) and spin speed (600 rpm).
  • Detergent and Additives: The detergent dispenser has chambers for prewash, main wash, fabric softeners, chlorine bleach, stain removers, water softeners, and starch. Liquid detergent can be used in the main wash compartment by fitting a colored insert.
  • Special Options:
    • Half Load (1/2): Reduces water consumption, suitable for lightly-soiled laundry and small loads (max 3 kg).
    • No Spin ( ): Excludes spinning, suitable for delicate laundry. For Cotton and Synthetic programs, a short spin cycle is still provided to optimize rinsing.
    • Rinse Hold ( ): Laundry remains in the last rinse water to prevent creasing and color changes. This is recommended for Synthetic or Delicate programs and can be terminated by pressing the button again or by turning the selector to "Drain."
    • Gentle Wash ( ): Reduces mechanical wash strength from strong to delicate.
  • First Wash Cycle: It is recommended to run a short program without laundry, using a small amount of detergent (30 ml), to remove any residual water from testing.
  • Loading Laundry: Laundry should be sorted by fabric type, color, and size. Zippers, buttons, and hooks should be fastened, and pockets emptied. Delicate items should be washed in special cotton bags. Overloading should be avoided to ensure satisfactory washing results.
  • Dyeing: Commercially available dye products (dye color, fixing agent, salt) can be used by pouring them directly into the empty drum before loading laundry. Only products designed for washing machines should be used, and manufacturer instructions must be followed. Plastic and rubber components may be stained by dyes.
  • Program Change: To change a program after it has started, switch off the appliance, select the new program and options, then switch it back on. No additional detergent should be added.
  • Program Interruption/Pause: Press the "On/Off" button to pause a program and press it again to resume.
  • Cancelling Program: To terminate a program prematurely, switch off the appliance, set the program selector to "Drain," and press "On/Off" to start the drain program.
  • Program End: The program selector knob moves to the stop position. Users should switch off the appliance, cancel special options, turn off the water tap, wait for the door to unlock (about one minute), then open the door and unload the laundry. The door should be left ajar to allow the drum to dry.

Maintenance Features

  • Appliance Exterior and Control Panel: Clean with a neutral household cleaner and a damp, soft cloth. Abrasive products and solvents should not be used.
  • Door Seal: Clean with a damp cloth and periodically check for foreign objects.
  • Filter: Check and clean the filter two or three times a year, or if the appliance is not draining properly, fails to spin, or if the pump is blocked. Ensure the water has cooled before draining.
  • Detergent Dispenser: Disengage and remove the drawer, then remove the inserts (softener compartment, siphon from bleach compartment). Wash all parts under running water, then replace them, ensuring the siphon is firmly in place.
  • Water Hose Mesh Filter: Periodically check and clean the mesh filter in the water supply hose. For straight hoses ("A"), turn off the tap, unscrew the hose from the tap, clean the internal filter, screw it back, then unscrew from the machine, remove and clean the filter with pliers, replace, and ensure water-tightness. For Water Stop hoses ("B"), turn off the tap, unscrew from the tap, clean the filter, screw back, and ensure water-tightness.
  • Draining Residual Water: This should be done before transporting the machine or if it is installed in a room subject to sub-zero temperatures. Switch off the appliance, unplug it, unclip the drain hose connection, place a container, lower the hose to drain water (ensure water is cool), wait for flow to stop, then fix the drain hose back.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as the appliance not starting, no water supply, waste water not pumped out, detergent residues, appliance vibrations during spin, Water Stop fault, and poor spin results. For persistent issues, contact After-Sales Service, providing details like the problem nature, appliance model, and service code.

Installation:

  • Transit Bolts: Before using the appliance, two transit screws and a transit bar must be removed to prevent internal damage during transport. These parts should be kept for future use if the machine needs to be moved again.
  • Leveling: The appliance must be installed on a solid, level floor. Adjust the leveling feet to ensure all four feet touch the floor properly. For wooden floors, place the machine on a 60 x 60 cm sheet of plywood (at least 3 cm thick) and secure it.
  • Water Inlet and Drain Hose Connection: Connect the water inlet hose to a cold water tap, ensuring no kinks and water-tight connections. The drain hose should be connected to a siphon or hooked over a sink, ensuring proper height and no kinks.
  • Electrical Connection: The appliance must be earthed and connected to a suitable socket. Do not use extension leads or multi-sockets. The power cable may only be replaced by a qualified technician.

The Whirlpool AWM 4066 is designed for domestic use and complies with EC Directives for Low Voltage, EMC, and CE Marking.
