Overview

The WillowWood One Transtibial System is a prosthetic device designed for individuals with transtibial amputations, offering comfort and longevity through its integrated components. The system includes an Alpha Liner, a One Gel Sock, and a One Sleeve, all designed to work together to provide a secure and comfortable fit.

Function Description:

The primary function of the WillowWood One Transtibial System is to provide a secure and comfortable interface between the residual limb and the prosthetic socket. The Alpha Liner is the first layer, worn directly on the limb, and is designed to minimize skin irritation and provide cushioning. The One Gel Sock is then worn over the liner, with its silicone side facing out, to further enhance comfort and create a smooth surface for the sleeve. Finally, the One Sleeve is pulled up over the prosthesis and onto the residual limb, creating a seal that helps maintain suspension of the prosthesis. For prostheses equipped with a LimbLogic vacuum system, the system actively creates a vacuum to ensure a strong and consistent suspension, preventing slippage and improving proprioception. The overall design aims to reduce discomfort, prevent skin issues, and provide a stable connection for daily activities.

Usage Features:

The system emphasizes a specific donning procedure to ensure optimal performance and comfort:

  1. Donning the Alpha Liner: The Alpha Duo® Liner is inverted so the logo is on the inside, then placed against the end of the limb. It is carefully rolled up onto the limb, ensuring no wrinkles or air pockets. It's crucial not to pull the liner, as this can stretch the gel and cause discomfort. Varying the orientation of the logo daily can prolong the liner's life.
  2. Donning the One Gel Sock: The One Gel Sock is inverted so the silicone side faces out, then placed against the end of the liner. It is rolled up onto the limb, ensuring the silicone side is against the liner and there are no wrinkles or air pockets.
  3. Donning the Prosthesis and One Sleeve: The large end of the One Sleeve is folded down onto the socket to expose the open end. The user then steps into the socket, and the sleeve is pulled up onto the residual limb.
  4. LimbLogic Vacuum System (if applicable): If the prosthesis includes a LimbLogic pump, the user stands in a full weight-bearing position and presses the on/off switch to activate the vacuum system. Detailed instructions for the LimbLogic system are provided separately.

A critical usage note is to never store the prosthesis with the top half of the sleeve rolled back onto the socket edge, as this can damage the sleeve.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and disinfection are essential for the longevity and hygiene of the WillowWood One System components.

Daily Cleaning:

  • Liner:
    • Clean the inside and outside of the liner thoroughly using lukewarm tap water and a body soap that does not irritate the skin. Apply soap with a clean, soft cloth or sponge.
    • Important: Do not scrub the liner, as scrubbing can roughen its surface and irritate the skin.
    • Rinse all soap residue from the liner with water.
    • Dry the liner with a clean, lint-free cloth.
    • Place the liner on the Drying Stand with the logo side facing out.
    • Caution: Drying the liner with the logo facing in will damage it.
    • Clean the limb with soap and rinse well.
  • Sleeve:
    • Gently clean the sleeve with soap and water. It is not necessary to remove the sleeve from the prosthesis for daily cleaning.

Weekly Disinfecting:

  • Liner:
    • Place a small amount of ethyl or isopropyl alcohol on a soft, clean cloth.
    • Lightly wipe the side of the liner without the logo with the cloth for two minutes.
    • Rinse the alcohol from the liner with water.
    • Place the liner on the Drying Stand with the logo side facing out.
    • Note: Do not soak the liner in ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, as this will stiffen the liner.
  • Sleeve:
    • If the silicone part of the One Sleeve touches the skin, it needs to be disinfected weekly.
    • Place a small amount of ethyl or isopropyl alcohol on a soft, clean cloth.
    • Lightly wipe the silicone with the cloth.
    • Rinse off the alcohol with water.
    • Note: Do not soak the sleeve in ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, as this will stiffen the sleeve.

Storing the Liner:

When not in use, the liner should be stored with the logo side out in a cool, dry place. For long-term storage, cover the dry liner with a clean plastic bag.

Storing the Sleeve:

When the prosthesis is not being worn, the bottom portion of the sleeve should remain on the socket. The top half of the sleeve should be unrolled and allowed to drape into the socket for protection, or it can be allowed to extend out of the socket. It is crucial not to leave the top half of the sleeve rolled back onto the socket edge, as this can damage the sleeve if the prosthesis falls over.

Drying Stand Assembly:

The Drying Stand, included with the system, needs to be assembled from two base components (Part A and Part B) and a tube. Part A slides into Part B, and the tube is then placed onto the assembled base. For a shorter stand, the tube can be trimmed to the desired length before placement.

Important Technical Specifications and Warnings:

  • Material Sensitivity: Alpha products can melt or burn if exposed to high temperatures or flame. Avoid such conditions.
  • Single Patient Use: This Alpha product is intended for use on a single patient. Using it with multiple patients can lead to cross-contamination.
  • Suffocation Hazard: Keep the product away from babies and children to avoid the danger of suffocation.
  • System Compatibility: WillowWood One Transtibial System components are designed and tested for use only with other WillowWood One Transtibial System components. Using them with other sealing systems may result in loss of suspension and potential injury.
  • Professional Fitting: Liners must be fit and dispensed by a qualified professional. WillowWood does not ship liners directly to users.
  • Warranty: Failure to follow the provided instructions will void the warranty.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Heavy sweating: May indicate the body has not adjusted to the liner, or air is getting between the liner and limb. Consult a prosthetist.
  • Skin irritation: Can be caused by air pockets, pulling the liner, harsh cleaning products, infrequent cleaning, infection, or an ill-fitting liner/socket. Solutions include proper donning, using mild soap, daily cleaning, and consulting a prosthetist or dermatologist.
  • Open wounds/non-intact skin: Do not wear the liner over open sores. Use a clean, non-intact skin area for the liner, and wear a bandage over the wound. Consult a prosthetist.
  • System leaks: Often due to sleeve fins tearing, holes in the sleeve, loose pump screws, or a loose One Link Cap with O-Ring. Solutions include replacing the sleeve, tightening the One Link Cap, or consulting a prosthetist for pump repair.

The WillowWood One Transtibial System is a carefully engineered solution aimed at providing a secure, comfortable, and hygienic prosthetic experience, with detailed instructions for proper use and maintenance to ensure its effectiveness and longevity.
