Overview

This document describes the operation and maintenance of the SUNSUN Pressure Filter CPF Series, designed for clarifying water in garden ponds. The filter system combines mechanical, biological, and UVC (ultraviolet) water treatment to ensure healthy water for fish and plants.

Function Description

The pressure filter operates through a multi-stage cleaning process. Water is pumped from the pond into the UVC device, where it first undergoes mechanical filtration. This stage removes visible dirt particles using a 3-layer filter foam, arranged from coarse to fine. Following mechanical filtration, the water enters the biological stage. Here, bio-balls (depending on the model) stimulate the settling of bio-organisms, which remove organic components from the pond water. Microorganisms settle in the filter sponge pores, with blue and yellow filter sponges differing in size and density, creating zones with varying flow speeds. In high-flow zones (blue filter), microorganisms convert ammonium to nitrate, while in faster-flow areas (yellow filter), anaerobic microorganisms reduce nitrate to nitrogen. The final stage involves UVC water treatment, where the water is exposed to UV radiation from an integrated UV lamp. This UV light destroys swimming algae, germs, and bacteria, resulting in clarified water. The device is designed to operate continuously, ideally 24 hours a day during frost-free seasons, to achieve optimal results.

The filter system includes a dirt indicator (turbidimeter) that changes from green to yellow when the sponge is too dirty, signaling the need for cleaning. For models CPF-180/CPF-250, a function switch allows users to select between "filtration" and "clean filter" modes. For larger models (CPF-2500 to CPF-30000), a cleaning crank is used to activate the cleaning function.

Usage Features

The device is intended for use in standing water bodies, garden ponds, or swimming ponds and their surrounding areas. It must be connected to a fault current protection switch with a triggering nominal current up to 30 mA. The device is not suitable for use in swimming pools, paddling pools, or other water bodies where people or animals are present during operation. Operation is prohibited when people or animals are in the danger zone.

Installation requires placing the filter on a horizontal, flat, and stable surface with its feet downwards, at least 2 meters away from the pond edge. The water outlet back to the pond should be placed a maximum of 2 meters above the filter cover. The filter is designed to be waterproof up to a 0.5 bar working pressure. Hoses are connected using stepped hose tails, which can be shortened to match the hose diameter. Hose clamps should be used to prevent loosening. The pump is connected to the water inlet, and the outflow leads back to the pond. A permanent drain hose can be connected to the cleaning outlet for garden watering; this connection must be closed and sealed with a hose tail (closure cap) and gasket seal during normal filter operation.

The UVC unit should not be turned on before water circulation has begun. The UV lamp must not be operated under water, and the device should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The filter must not run dry or with a completely closed intake port, as this will void the manufacturer's warranty. In frosty weather, the device must be removed, emptied, and stored in a dry, frost-free place.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the efficient operation of the filter. The filter sponges need to be cleaned regularly. For models CPF-180/CPF-250, the cleaning operation is activated by bringing the rotating switch to the "cleaning" position and pressing down the setting switch. This squeezes the sponges, and dirty water is discharged via the watering connection, which can be used for garden watering. For larger models (CPF-2500 to CPF-30000), the cleaning function is activated by turning a crank handle, similar to a salad spinner, until the filter sponges are sufficiently cleaned.

The UV lamp is an integral part of the filter system and has a lifespan of approximately 8000 operating hours, corresponding to one season (March to November). It is recommended to change the UV lamp at the beginning of each season. To change the light tube, the pump must be disconnected, and the screws securing the UV unit to the filter lid must be released. After the UV unit has cooled and dried, the light tube should be carefully pulled out of its socket using a soft cloth. The quartz glass tube, which houses the light bulb, must be cleaned to remove lime deposits, using appropriate agents like citric acid, and then rinsed thoroughly. All parts are reassembled in reverse order, and the pump and device are reconnected to the power supply.

Before every commissioning, users should check that all seals and connections are correctly fitted. The filter materials and the lamp should be replaced annually to ensure problem-free operation. UV light is harmful to eyes and skin, so direct exposure should be avoided. All maintenance work on the UVC unit requires disconnecting it from the power supply. The UVC unit must be fully assembled before the filter can be put into operation.
