The WORX Cordless Lawn Mower, identified by models WG779E, WG779E.1, WG779E.2, and WG779E.9, is a versatile and user-friendly tool designed for domestic lawn mowing. This cordless machine offers freedom of movement without the constraints of power cords, making it ideal for various garden sizes and layouts.
Function Description:
The primary function of the WORX Cordless Lawn Mower is to efficiently cut grass, providing a neat and well-maintained lawn. It operates on a 20V MAX Power Share battery system, allowing for interchangeable batteries across compatible WORX tools. The mower is equipped with a robust motor and a sharp blade designed to deliver a clean cut. It features a grass collection bag to gather clippings, ensuring a tidy finish and preventing the need for manual raking. The mower also incorporates a safety key mechanism, which must be inserted for operation and removed to prevent accidental starts, enhancing user safety.
Usage Features:
The WORX Cordless Lawn Mower is designed with ease of use and flexibility in mind.
- Assembly and Setup: The mower requires some initial assembly, primarily involving the handle bar and the grass collection bag. The handle bar can be adjusted and folded for convenient storage (Fig. A1-A5, L1-L2). The grass collection bag is easily fitted and removed (Fig. B1-B4, C1-C3), with a note to ensure it's fully installed by depressing it slightly.
- Battery System: The mower operates on two 20V Power Share battery packs (Fig. E). It's crucial to use two batteries simultaneously for operation and to charge them at the same time for optimal performance. The battery power indicator (Fig. F) provides real-time feedback on the battery status:
- Five green lights indicate a highly charged condition.
- Two, three, or four green lights show a remaining charge, with more lights indicating higher capacity.
- One green light illuminated means at least one battery is depleted and needs charging.
- No light indicates that at least one battery is not fully installed or is defective.
- One light flashing twice per cycle means at least one battery is over-discharged and needs recharging.
- One light flashing three times per cycle indicates at least one battery is hot, requiring a cool-down period before restarting.
- One light flashing four times per cycle signifies an overload, prompting the user to raise the cutting height or push slowly.
- Starting and Stopping: To start the mower, the safety key must be inserted, and the switch lever activated. To stop, simply release the switch lever (Fig. G1, G2). Always remove the safety key when leaving the machine unattended or before performing any maintenance.
- Cutting Height Adjustment: The mower offers multiple cutting height positions, adjustable via a knob (Fig. H). It's recommended to stop the mower, release the switch lever, and wait for the motor to stop completely before adjusting the height to prevent injury from rotating blades.
- Work Mode Dial: The mower features a work mode dial (Fig. I1, I2) with two settings:
- ECO mode: Ideal for everyday mowing conditions, removing approximately 20mm of grass at a time. This mode conserves battery life.
- TURBO mode: Suitable for cutting dense or overgrown grass, providing extra power when needed.
- Grass Bag Filling Indicator: A flap on the grass collection bag serves as a visual indicator (Fig. J). When the bag is empty, the flap floats (a); when full, the flap falls down (b), signaling that it's time to empty the bag.
- Rear Discharge: The mower also supports rear discharge of grass clippings (Fig. K).
- Mowing Tips: For best results, it's advised to mow frequently, walk at a normal pace, and avoid starting/stopping the mower too often. Always use fully charged battery packs and cut off 1/3 or less of the grass height. Walking slowly in long grass ensures effective cutting and proper discharge of clippings. Avoiding wet grass prevents clogging. For new or thick grass, a higher cutting height should be used to extend battery duration. When mowing on slopes, always mow across the face, never up and down, and maintain good footing. Release the switch lever when crossing graveled areas to prevent stones from being thrown. If the mower vibrates abnormally, stop immediately, remove the safety key, and inspect for damage.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the WORX Cordless Lawn Mower.
- General Maintenance: Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight. Frequently check the grass catcher for wear or deterioration. Replace worn or damaged parts with genuine replacement parts and accessories. Exercise caution when adjusting the mower to prevent finger entrapment between moving blades and fixed parts. Always allow the mower to cool down before storing.
- Blade Maintenance: The blade is a critical component and requires regular inspection and sharpening.
- Sharpening: Sharpen the blade twice during a mowing season under normal circumstances, more frequently if the lawn has sandy soil. Always wear proper eye protection and ensure the safety key is removed before handling the blade. Sharpen the cutting edges on both ends of the blade, removing equal amounts of material (Fig. M).
- Balancing: After sharpening, check the blade's balance by placing its center hole over a nail or screwdriver shank clamped horizontally in a vise (Fig. N). If either end rotates downward, file that end until the blade is properly balanced.
- Replacement: Renew the metal blade after 50 hours of mowing or 2 years, whichever comes first, regardless of condition. To remove the blade, hold it (16) and unscrew the blade bolt (15) counter-clockwise using a spanner wrench. When re-assembling, position the blade with the cutting edges towards the ground and securely tighten the blade bolt (15) (Fig. O1, O2).
- Cleaning and Storage: After each use, stop the mower and remove the safety key. Clean the exterior thoroughly with a soft brush and cloth, avoiding water, solvents, or polishes. Remove all grass and debris, especially from ventilation slots. Turn the machine on its side to clean the blade area, using a wooden or plastic implement to remove compacted grass cuttings. Store the machine in a dry place, and avoid placing other objects on top of it. For compact storage, release the handle knobs and fold the upper handle (Fig. L1, L2).
- Battery Pack Care: Do not dismantle, open, or shred battery cells or packs. Avoid short-circuiting battery packs by storing them away from metal objects. Do not expose battery packs to heat or fire, and avoid direct sunlight. If a battery pack leaks, prevent liquid contact with skin or eyes; if contact occurs, wash thoroughly and seek medical advice. Keep battery packs clean and dry, wiping terminals with a dry cloth if dirty. Always charge battery packs before use, following the correct charging procedure with the specified WORX charger. Do not leave battery packs on charge when not in use. After extended storage, charge and discharge the battery pack several times to achieve maximum performance. Keep battery packs out of reach of children and dispose of them properly.
The WORX Cordless Lawn Mower is designed to be a reliable and efficient tool for maintaining your lawn, with features that prioritize user convenience, safety, and effective grass cutting.
