NetworkHD 600 Series uses DHCP to assign IP addresses by default. In the
absence of a DHCP server an AutoIP address will be assigned in the subnet
169.254.0.0/16. Ensure the PC being used for conguration obtains an IP
via DHCP or is set to an address in the AutoIP range prior to starting the
conguration process.
WyreStorm recommends the use of the NHD-000-RACK3 for installations
containing multiple NetworkHD 600 Series devices.
Use of this product provides an enclosure to mount and secure all
NetworkHD devices in an AV/IT 19” equipment rack.
Network Switch Requirements
WyreStorm highly recommends the use of switches listed in the
NetworkHD Switch Recommendation Guide. These switches have been
veried by WyreStorm to meet the requirements of a NetworkHD system.
NetworkHD requires a Layer 2+ / Layer 3 managed switch network with
support for Multicast & IGMP Snooping. Ensure that the switch being used
supports these features and that they are congured prior to connecting
the NetworkHD system.
Congure all network switches to the exact specications contained in

Overview

The WyreStorm 600 Series 4K HDR AV over IP SDVOE Encoder/Decoder (NHD-600-TX | NHD-600-RX) is a robust solution designed for high-performance audio-visual distribution over an IP network. This quickstart guide provides essential information for setting up and configuring the system, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Function Description

The NHD-600 Series encoder/decoder system facilitates the transmission and reception of 4K HDR audio and video signals over a 10GbE IP network using SDVoE technology. The NHD-600-TX (encoder) takes a DisplayPort or HDMI input, along with audio, and converts it into an IP stream. The NHD-600-RX (decoder) receives this IP stream and converts it back to an HDMI output for display, also providing audio output. This allows for flexible and scalable AV distribution, enabling multiple sources to be routed to multiple displays across a network infrastructure. The system supports 4K HDR content, ensuring high-quality visuals with vibrant colors and contrast. It also includes integrated IR and RS-232 control pathways, allowing for seamless control of connected source and display devices directly through the NetworkHD system. The NHD-000-CTL (sold separately) acts as the central management unit, facilitating configuration and control of all encoders and decoders within the NetworkHD system.

Usage Features

The NHD-600 Series is designed for ease of use and flexibility in various AV environments.

  • High-Quality AV Distribution: Supports 4K HDR video at 60Hz with 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, delivering uncompromised visual quality. It also handles various audio formats, including LPCM, Dolby Atmos, and DTS-X, for an immersive audio experience.
  • SDVoE Technology: Leverages SDVoE (Software Defined Video over Ethernet) for near-zero latency transmission, making it suitable for applications where real-time video is critical.
  • Network-Based Scalability: The IP-based architecture allows for easy expansion of the system. Users can add more encoders and decoders as needed, without being limited by traditional matrix switch constraints.
  • Integrated Control: Features IR TX/RX and RS-232 ports on both encoders and decoders. This enables bidirectional control of connected source devices (via the encoder) and display devices (via the decoder) directly from a central control system, simplifying overall system management.
  • Flexible Network Connectivity: Each device includes a 10GbE SDVoE port for high-bandwidth AV transmission and a 1GbE LAN port for control and network connectivity to other devices. This dual-port design allows for separation of AV and control traffic or integration into a single network, depending on the system design.
  • DHCP and AutoIP Support: Devices are configured to obtain IP addresses via DHCP by default, simplifying initial setup. In the absence of a DHCP server, they will automatically assign an AutoIP address, ensuring connectivity for configuration.
  • Management Suite Integration: The system is managed using the WyreStorm Management Suite, which includes the NetworkHD 000 Series Console. This software provides a user-friendly interface for discovering devices, assigning IP addresses, setting alias names, configuring video scaling, and managing HDCP values.
  • Rack Mounting Option: WyreStorm recommends using the NHD-000-RACK3 for installations with multiple NetworkHD 600 Series devices. This rack enclosure provides a secure and organized mounting solution for AV/IT equipment racks.
  • Fast Switch Mode: Offers rapid switching between video sources, with transitions occurring within 1 to 2 video frames, ensuring a smooth user experience.
  • Genlock Mode: Provides precise synchronization of video signals, with uncompressed latency as low as 30us, crucial for professional AV applications.
  • Audio Breakout/Embedding: The devices feature 3.5mm audio input/output ports, allowing for audio embedding at the encoder and audio breakout at the decoder, providing flexibility for external audio systems.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the NHD-600 Series system is straightforward, with several features designed to ensure long-term reliability and performance.

  • Firmware Updates: WyreStorm regularly releases firmware updates to enhance performance, add new features, and address any potential issues. Users are advised to keep all NHD devices updated to the latest firmware version, which can be downloaded from the WyreStorm website.
  • Management Software: The WyreStorm Management Suite is a key tool for system maintenance. It allows administrators to monitor device status, reconfigure settings, and troubleshoot issues from a centralized location.
  • Network Switch Recommendations: WyreStorm provides a list of recommended network switches that have been verified to meet the system's requirements. Using these switches, along with detailed configuration guides, helps ensure stable network performance and minimizes troubleshooting efforts.
  • Documentation and Support: Comprehensive documentation, including the NetworkHD Installation Guide, Technical Reference Guide, and Switch Configuration Guides, is available on the WyreStorm website. These resources provide detailed instructions and best practices for installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. WyreStorm also offers technical support for assistance with any issues.
  • Wiring Guidelines: The guide emphasizes proper wiring practices, recommending pre-terminated HDMI and DP cables and adherence to Ethernet cabling standards (IEC 60603-7 8P8C) to prevent signal degradation and ensure reliable connections.
  • Troubleshooting Steps: The quickstart guide includes a dedicated troubleshooting section that addresses common issues such as devices not being located by the software, failure to connect to the CTL controller, and no image appearing on displays. These steps guide users through verifying power, network settings, firewall exceptions, and cable connections.
  • Reset Functionality: The NHD-000-CTL includes a reset button that can be used to restore the controller to its default IP address, which can be useful for resolving connectivity issues.
  • Warranty Information: WyreStorm provides a five-year warranty on its products, covering defects in material and workmanship under normal use, offering peace of mind and long-term support for the investment.
  • Environmental Considerations: The guide specifies operating and storage temperature ranges, as well as humidity levels, to ensure the devices are installed in suitable environments that promote longevity and stable operation. Proper airflow and ventilation are also recommended to prevent overheating.
