It offers reliable two-way radio communication within the UHF CB band, suitable for both Australia and New Zealand, adhering to the respective ACMA and MED general user radio licenses.

Function Description:

The XTM477PK functions as a 5-watt UHF CB radio, enabling users to transmit and receive voice communications across 80 narrow-band channels. It supports duplex repeater functionality, allowing for extended transmission range in areas with repeater stations. The radio includes features like channel scan, squelch control, and a busy channel lockout (BCL) to optimize communication. It also has a mute out function that can mute a car stereo when receiving incoming traffic, enhancing user convenience. The fixed cord handpiece/microphone simplifies operation.

Usage Features:

  • Power ON/OFF and Volume Control: Integrated into a single rotary control.
  • Channel Selection: Achieved using Channel Up and Down buttons on the radio fascia.
  • Squelch Control (SQL): A global setting with 10 levels (0-9) to filter out background noise and weaker signals. Level 0 is off, 1 is the lowest, and 9 is the highest. Default is 3.
  • Duplex Repeater Function (DUP): Can be enabled for channels 01-08 and 41-48. This is a per-channel setting and needs to be activated individually for each desired repeater channel. Default is OFF.
  • Channel Scan (SCN): A global setting that allows the radio to scan through all 80 channels and stop on a busy channel. Options are Scan ON (oS) or Scan OFF (GS). Default is ON.
  • Busy Channel Lockout (BCL): A per-channel setting that disables the transmitter when a channel is busy. Options are BCL OFF (oF) or BCL ON (on). Default is OFF for all channels.
  • Call Ring Tone (CAL): A global setting with 5 selectable tone melodies (C1-C5) that play when the CALL button on the microphone is pressed. Default is C1.
  • Roger Beep (RBP): A global setting that transmits an End of Transmission (EOT) tone when the Push To Talk (PTT) button is released, indicating the end of transmission. Options are RBP OFF (oF) or RBP ON (on). Default is OFF.
  • Button Beeps (BEP): A global setting to turn ON or OFF the audible beeps when buttons on the front panel are pressed. Options are BEP OFF (oF) or BEP ON (on). Default is ON.
  • INST Button (Instant Channel): On the microphone, a short press switches to a preset instant channel (default is 09). This can be reprogrammed by selecting a new channel and long-pressing the INST button for 2 seconds.
  • CALL Button (Microphone): A short press transmits Selcall CTCSS/DCS tones if enabled in menu settings. It also sends a 2-second page tone to other units on the same channel (only possible every 60 seconds).
  • Push To Talk (PTT) Button (Microphone): Used for transmitting speech. The radio is in receive mode when the PTT button is not pressed.
  • Menu Navigation: The "F" button on the radio fascia is used to enter and navigate through menu features. A short press enters menu mode, and subsequent short presses cycle through options. A long press (2 seconds) exits menu mode.
  • Fast Steps: A long press (2 seconds) of the Up/Down arrow buttons in normal mode allows for fast stepping through channels.
  • Factory Reset: Press and hold the "F" button while turning the CB radio ON to reset the system to factory defaults.

Maintenance Features:

  • Antenna Installation: Critical for optimal performance. Users are advised to connect the antenna to the rear socket using a PL259 coaxial connector and select a high-quality antenna mounted in a good location. Crucially, never press the PTT or CALL button before connecting the antenna to the radio to prevent damage.
  • Power Connection: The radio is designed for 12/24 Volt DC, with a 13.8 VDC nominal voltage. Only replace the fuse with a 2 Amp 3AG glass fuse.
  • Installation Guidance: For optimum performance, professional installation by a UHF specialist or auto electrician is recommended, especially if the user is unsure about the process. Avoid mounting near heaters or air conditioners.
  • Mounting: The radio and microphone brackets should be screwed to firm surfaces, and the radio then fixed into its bracket using thumb screws.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Always read the manual before installation and use to avoid product failure, damage, or incorrect operation.
    • Adhere to State and Federal laws regarding two-way radio use in vehicles.
    • Do not place the radio in airbag deployment areas.
    • Turn the radio OFF in potentially explosive atmospheres or near blasting caps/areas.
    • Comply with radio frequency energy exposure standards; transmit no more than 50% of the time.
    • Do not hold the antenna during use, and do not use a damaged antenna.
    • Turn off the radio in locations where electromagnetic interference (EMI) is prohibited (e.g., healthcare facilities).
    • Consult aviation regulators before installing in aircraft.
    • Maintain a minimum separation of 15cm between the radio and pacemakers.
    • Consult hearing aid manufacturers if interference occurs.
    • Consult medical device manufacturers if using other personal medical devices.
    • Keep the radio out of reach of babies/young children.
    • Do not use the radio outdoors during a thunderstorm.
    • Always listen to a UHF channel before transmitting to ensure it is not in use.
    • Identify yourself when transmitting on a channel.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 24-month warranty against defects from the date of purchase, provided by SRGS Pty Ltd. Claims require proof of purchase. The warranty does not cover product modification, misuse, abuse, normal wear and tear, or failure to follow user instructions.
