Avoidable design mistakes
– Moving vegetation within field of view (grass, branches, bushes, trees)
-> Cut frequently or use geotextiles to suppress growth
– Field of view not properly terminated (use of artificial termination if
necessary)
-> See next slide
– Reflecting surfaces and object in or near the detection zone
-> make sure detector alignment avoids solar panels, metal sheets or
objects, etc.
– Unfenced perimeter (no fence or physical wall present)
-> Wildlife and Pet activity
– Detector mounting close to spotlight/floodlight or ventilator/air condition
– Spotlight/floodlight or ventilator/air condition within field of view (may cause
turbulence)
– Unstable mounting structure (moves in strong wind)
– Direct sunlight or headlights of a car on detector optics
– No alarm verification
– Alignment across or along waters (ports, lake and sea banks, rivers)
