The XY Find It is a smart Bluetooth device designed to help users keep track of their belongings. It functions by maintaining a short leash on items through "KeepNear™ alerts." These alerts are triggered on the user's device when the XY app loses contact with the item, helping to prevent items from being left behind or lost.

Function Description:

The primary function of the XY Find It is to act as a beacon that communicates with the XY app on a user's smartphone or tablet. This communication relies on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. When the XY Find It is within Bluetooth range of the device running the app, it can communicate its presence. The app also incorporates a map feature that displays the last approximate location where the device had contact with the item. This feature is useful for retracing steps if a "KeepNear™ alert" is missed or turned off. It's important to note that the XY Find It is not a GPS device itself; it leverages the GPS capabilities of the user's connected device to record location data.

Usage Features:

Account Creation and Device Registration:

• Users must create an XY user account using email and password or by signing up with Facebook.
• For XY2 devices: Users need to open the device, remove the yellow battery tab, re-insert the battery with the "+" side up, close the beacon, place it near their device, and tap the "+" icon in the top-right corner of the "My Items" screen to start the syncing process. A video tutorial is available for opening the XY Find It.
• For XY3 devices: There is no battery tab to remove. Users press and hold the external button to wake the beacon from sleep mode, place it near their device, and tap the "+" icon in the top-right corner of the "My Items" screen to begin syncing.

Recommended Settings for Optimal Results:

• iOS:
  • Allow location access and notifications when first downloading the app.
  • Ensure Bluetooth is always turned on.
  • Set Location to "Always" to capture and update location changes even when the app is not in use.
  • Enable "Background App Refresh" for the XY app to ensure updates are captured while the app runs in the background. This can be verified in "device settings" via the app's main menu.
• Android:
  • Ensure Location is enabled and set to "High accuracy."
  • Ensure Bluetooth is always turned on.
  • Disable any settings that restrict background data usage to prevent inaccurate results, especially on the map.
• General: Logging out of the XY app will stop all tracking and updates. Certain devices may require Bluetooth to be restarted periodically to reestablish connection.

Main Features:

• Last Known Location: The map in the XY app helps users retrace their steps. It displays the last approximate location where the device had contact with the XY Find It, using the device's GPS and signal strength. GPS accuracy can vary based on the device and line of sight to satellites.
• KeepNear™ Alerts: These push notifications are triggered when the XY app loses contact with the XY Find It, helping users avoid leaving items behind. Alerts can be turned on/off for individual items from the "My Items" screen by tapping the KeepNear™ icon. A bell icon with a line through it indicates alerts are off.
• Beep to Find: If an item is nearby but out of sight, users can activate the "beep" feature from the "My Items" screen to make the XY Find It emit a sound. For XY2 and XY3, the "beep" button changes to "stop" to allow manual cessation of the sound. XY3 beacons also allow users to ring their phone by pressing the button on the beacon itself.
• Community Lost & Found: If an item cannot be located by the user, it can be marked as "lost" within the app. This sends an email notification whenever the item comes within range of any other device running the XY app, providing the new approximate location. iOS users can mark an item lost by selecting it, then tapping "more..." and "Help! I lost it!". Android users tap the icon in the top-right corner after selecting the item.

Maintenance Features:

Troubleshooting Device Registration (If unable to add XY Find It):

• General: Ensure Location is on and set to the highest accuracy mode (for iOS, confirm it's enabled specifically for the XY app in "device settings"). Log out, restart Bluetooth, and log back in.
• XY2 Specific: If "nearby" page is blank, open the XY Find It to ensure no battery tab remains. Reinsert the battery with "+" side up. If a signal appears but the beacon is "claimed," take a screenshot of the "nearby" page and send it with the purchase receipt to contact@xyfindit.com for a reset. If still blank, try a new CR2032 battery. If issues persist, submit a feedback form with details of troubleshooting performed.
• XY3 Specific: If no unclaimed beacons or syncing starts despite the beacon beeping when the button is pressed, ensure Location is enabled for the app and set to highest accuracy. Log out, restart Bluetooth, and log back in, then press the button on the XY Find It again. If syncing still fails or the beacon didn't beep, press and hold the button again to ensure it's not in sleep mode. If it beeps but won't sync, check the "nearby" page. If "claimed," screenshot and email with receipt to contact@xyfindit.com for a reset. If "nearby" is blank or it doesn't beep, open the device (video available) to check battery installation. Reinsert battery with "+" side up. Try a new CR2032 battery if no signal or beep. If issues persist, submit a feedback form with details of troubleshooting performed.

Basic Troubleshooting:

• "Out of range" while near phone:
  • Ensure Location is enabled and set to "high accuracy" (Android) or "Always" (iOS), and confirmed for the XY app. Log out, restart Bluetooth, and log back in.
  • If still "out of range," the battery likely needs replacement. XY Find It uses CR2032 batteries. A video shows how to open the device. Ensure the "+" side of the battery faces up.
  • If the problem persists, submit a feedback form with details of the issue and troubleshooting performed.
• Map shows old or incorrect location:
  • The map displays the last approximate location when the device had contact with the XY Find It. It only updates when logged in and when the app can communicate with the beacon.
  • If the XY Find It is with the user but the map is incorrect, ensure Location is enabled for the app, log out, restart Bluetooth, and log back in.
  • If the XY Find It appears "out of range," try replacing the CR2032 battery (video available for opening).
  • If issues persist, submit a feedback form with details of the issue and troubleshooting performed.
• "Beep" function doesn't work:
  • The beep feature only works when the XY Find It is within range.
  • If it's in range but the beep failed, log out of the XY app, restart Bluetooth, and log back in.
  • If the issue persists, submit a feedback form from the XY app.
• General Maintenance Tip: Always ensure the latest version of the XY app is being used to avoid unforeseen issues with features.
