DESCRIPTION BEHAVIOR
Motor Encoder Locked - (LH Node 4, RH Node 3) Traction speed limited to limp mode.
Probable Causes and Test Procedures
7. Check for Encoder Shorts:
a. Using a digital multimeter, check for shorts (<10k Ohm reading) between encoder signal pins and
ground (1 and 2, 1 and 3). Are there any shorts?
YES- Remove harness wrapping from encoder to traction controller and inspect wires for
broken insulation and shorts. Repair any damaged wiring and re-assemble. Repeat step 2.
NO- Proceed to step 7b.
b. Are there any shorts between signal pins and 12V Supply (2 and 4, 3 and 4)?
YES- Remove harness wrapping from encoder to traction controller and inspect wires for
broken insulation & shorts. Repair any damaged wiring and re-assemble. Repeat step 2.
NO- Proceed to step 8.
8. No fault found or problem unidentified.
a. Power down vehicle, and re-key, and operate traction. Does fault code reappear?
YES- Fault is most likely internal to traction controller, contact Resident Service Engineering
through the Contact Management System.
NO- Actual encoder appears operational. Problem may be intermittent. Repeat tests if reap-
pears.
9. Check for mechanical binding.
a. Attempt to rotate drive tire, is it bound?
YES- Identity if any foreign material blocking or transmission is failed.
NO- Problem is unknown, contact Service Engineering.
