CANbus Test
Probable Causes and Test Procedures
Joystick CPS52, Pin 3 CPS52, Pin 2
Dash Display CPS20, Pin 3 CPS20, Pin 4
Hoist Pump Controller CPS15, Pins 21 and 12 CPS15, Pin 20
Right Traction Controller CPS41, Pin 28 CPS41, Pin 27
Left Traction Controller CPS42, Pin 28 CPS42, Pin 27
4. Measure resistance between CAN LO and truck frame; also check between CAN HI and truck frame.
Measurements should be greater than 50K ohms.
5. Measure resistance between CAN LO and B- stud; also check between CAN HI and B- stud.
Measurements should be greater than 25K ohms.
6. Check resistance between truck frame and each of the following:
B- stud; positive stud of main contact (battery side); negative stud of main contact (non-battery side); FU1;
TF11 (wire 010).
Measurements should be greater than 50K ohms.
7. Check resistance between truck frame and each phase (U, V, and W) of both traction controllers
Measurements should be greater than 50K ohms.
8. Check resistance between truck frame and each phase (U, V, and W) of hoist controller.
Measurements should be greater than 50K ohms.
9. Perform circuit connections checks (key in the OFF position):
a. Check for correct wires connected to the following components per the schematic:
Right Traction controller: CPS41 pins 10, 27, 28; traction controller B- stud.
Left Traction controller: CPS42 pins 10, 27, 28; traction controller B- stud.
Hoist controller: CPS15 pin 1, hoist controller B- stud.
Dash display: CPS20 pins 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6.
Joystick: CPS52 pins 1 (circuit 284), 2 (circuit 900-green wire in twisted pair), 3 (circuit 901-
yellow wire in twisted pair), 4 (circuit 113).
10. Wire harness checks:
a. Ensure the following sockets are not spread and are properly seated (controller power and ground
circuits):
Right Traction controller: CPS41 pin 10, traction controller B- stud.
Left Traction controller: CPS42 pin 10, traction controller B- stud
Hoist controller: CPS15 pin 1, hoist controller B- stud.
Dash display: CPS20 pin 1, 2, and 6.
b. Check that B- on all motor controllers is properly connected to NEG STUD: NEG BLK, NEG 1,
NEG 2, NEG 3 (clean contact surfaces and properly torqued to NEG STUD).
c. Check POS RED, POS 1, POS 2, and POS 3 for proper connection (clean contact surface and
properly torqued to contact studs).
