DESCRIPTION BEHAVIOR
Contactor is open, not closing when coil is
energized - (RH Node 3)
Parking brake dropped, all functions disabled.
Probable Causes and Test Procedures
1. With the key switch ON, is the contactor engaged (closed)?
YES- Proceed to step 3.
NO- Proceed to step 2.
2. Is there 36V across contactor coil (Wire 075 and wire 010)?
YES- Proceed to step 3.
NO- Proceed to step 4.
3. Determine if contactor plunger and tips for foreign material build-up, lack of lubricant.
a. With B+ disconnected, try to pry contactor plate back and forth.
b. Remove any visible foreign material, dirt or dust build-up.
c. Is the plate moving and clear?
YES- Reconnect B+ and attempt truck operation (ensure contactor engages and disengages
properly).
NO- Proceed to step 4.
4. Is the contactor coil resistance between 65 to 85 Ohms?
YES- Proceed to step 5.
NO- Check coil diode, and if ok, replace contactor.
5. Check controller for coil driver open:
a. Measure from controller Pin 12 to B−. Is the voltage ~ B+?
YES- Controller not driving coil, replace controller, contact Service Engineering.
NO- Controller driving coil, proceed to step 6.
