Overview

The Yamaha XV19CTSE(C) Stratoliner is a motorcycle designed for sporting, touring, and racing. This owner's manual provides essential information for its safe operation, inspection, and basic maintenance.

Engine and Fuel System

The motorcycle is powered by an air-cooled, 4-stroke, OHV, V-type 2-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1854 cm³ (100.0 × 118.0 mm bore × stroke) and a compression ratio of 9.48:1. It features an electric starter and a dry sump lubrication system. The recommended engine oil is YAMALUBE, with a type of SAE 10W-30, 10W-40, 10W-50, 15W-40, 20W-40 or 20W-50, and an API service SG type or higher, JASO standard MA grade. The engine oil quantity is 4.10 L (4.33 US qt, 3.61 Imp.qt) without an oil filter cartridge replacement and 4.90 L (5.18 US qt, 4.31 Imp.qt) with a replacement. The transfer case uses SAE 80 API GL-4 Hypoid gear oil, with a quantity of 0.55 L (0.58 US qt, 0.48 Imp.qt).

The fuel system utilizes fuel injection with a throttle body ID mark of XV19CTSE 1D71 01 or XV19CTSEC 1D72 11. It requires premium unleaded gasoline (Gasohol (E10) acceptable) with a pump octane number [(R+M)/2] of 91 or higher, or a research octane number of 95 or higher. The fuel tank capacity is 17.0 L (4.49 US gal, 3.74 Imp.gal), with a fuel reserve amount of 3.0 L (0.79 US gal, 0.66 Imp.gal) when the fuel level warning light comes on. The motorcycle is equipped with a catalytic converter in the exhaust system and an EXUP (EXhaust Ultimate Power valve) system to boost engine power. For California models, an evaporative emission control system with a canister is included to prevent fuel vapor discharge into the atmosphere.

Chassis and Suspension

The chassis features a double cradle frame with a caster angle of 31.30° and a trail of 152 mm (6.0 in). The front suspension is a telescopic fork with a coil spring/oil damper, offering 130.0 mm (5.12 in) of wheel travel. The rear suspension is a swingarm (link suspension) with a coil spring/gas-oil damper, providing 110.0 mm (4.33 in) of wheel travel. The rear shock absorber assembly is equipped with a spring preload adjusting nut, with standard settings at a distance A of 165 mm (6.50 in).

Brakes and Wheels

The front brake is a dual disc brake operated by the right hand, while the rear brake is a single disc brake operated by the right foot. Both brake systems use DOT 4 brake fluid. The front wheel is a cast wheel with a rim size of 18M/C x MT4.00, fitted with a tubeless tire of size 130/70R18M/C 63H (DUNLOP/D251F L or BRIDGESTONE/G851 RADIAL G). The rear wheel is also a cast wheel with a rim size of 17M/C x MT5.50, using a tubeless tire of size 190/60R17M/C 78H (DUNLOP/D251 or BRIDGESTONE/G850 RADIAL G). Recommended cold tire pressures are 250 kPa (2.50 kgf/cm², 36 psi) for the front and 280 kPa (2.80 kgf/cm², 41 psi) for the rear, for loads up to 181 kg (399 lb). The minimum tire tread depth for both front and rear tires is 1.0 mm (0.04 in).

Electrical System

The electrical system uses a TCI ignition system and an AC magneto charging system. The battery is a GT14B-4 VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) battery with a voltage of 12 V and a capacity of 12.0 Ah. The headlight uses halogen bulbs: one 12 V, 51.0 W bulb for low beam and one 12 V, 55.0 W bulb for high beam. The tail/brake light, meter lighting, neutral indicator light, high beam indicator light, turn signal indicator light, fuel level warning light, and engine trouble warning light are all LEDs. The front turn signal/position lights are 12 V, 23.0 W/8.0 W × 2, and the rear turn signal lights are 12 V, 21.0 W × 2. The license plate light is 12 V, 5.0 W × 1. Fuses include a 50.0 A main fuse, 20.0 A headlight fuse, 15.0 A signaling system fuse, 20.0 A ignition fuse, 15.0 A fuel injection system fuse, 15.0 A ECU fuse, 5.0 A auxiliary DC connector fuse, and a 5.0 A backup fuse.

Controls and Instruments

The motorcycle features a multi-function meter unit with a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, two tripmeters, a fuel reserve tripmeter, a clock, a self-diagnosis device, and a brightness control mode. Handlebar switches include a dimmer switch, turn signal switch, horn switch, engine stop switch, light switch (for optional lights), and start switch. The clutch lever is on the left handlebar, and the brake lever is on the right. The shift pedal is on the left side, and the brake pedal is on the right. The throttle grip free play should be 4.0–6.0 mm (0.16–0.24 in). An auxiliary DC connector is located under the rider seat for 12-V accessories, with a maximum load of 60 W (5 A).

Dimensions and Weight

The overall length is 2580 mm (101.6 in), overall width is 1055 mm (41.5 in), and overall height is 1515 mm (59.6 in). The seat height is 705 mm (27.8 in), wheelbase is 1715 mm (67.5 in), and ground clearance is 155 mm (6.10 in). The minimum turning radius is 3480 mm (137.0 in). The curb weight is 369 kg (813 lb), and the maximum load (total weight of rider, passenger, cargo, and accessories) is 181 kg (399 lb).

Usage and Maintenance Features

The main switch/steering lock controls ignition, lighting, and steering lock. The headlight comes on automatically when the engine starts. The turn signals have a self-canceling system that operates after about 150 m (490 ft) or 15 seconds of travel. The engine stop switch is used to stop the engine in emergencies. The motorcycle is equipped with a lean angle sensor and an engine auto-stop system (after 20 minutes of idling). The ignition circuit cut-off system prevents starting in certain conditions (e.g., sidestand down with transmission in gear).

Maintenance includes periodic checks of spark plugs (NGK/DPR8EA-9 or DENSO/X24EPR-U9, gap 0.8–0.9 mm), valve clearance (every 16000 mi), air filter element (replace every 24000 mi), engine oil and oil filter cartridge (change at initial 600 mi, then every 8000 mi), transfer case oil (change at initial 600 mi, then every 16000 mi), brake and clutch fluids (replace every 2 years), brake hoses (replace every 4 years), drive belt slack (7.5–13.0 mm), cables, brake and shift pedals, brake and clutch levers, sidestand, rear suspension, front fork, steering, and wheel bearings. Fuses should be replaced with specified amperages. Headlight and turn signal bulbs are replaceable. The motorcycle is designed for on-road use only and is not suitable for off-road use. It is not designed to pull a trailer or be attached to a sidecar.

Storage and Care

For storage, the fuel tank should be filled and fuel stabilizer added. Engine cylinders, piston rings, etc., should be protected from corrosion. Control cables and pivoting points should be lubricated. Tire air pressure should be checked, and the motorcycle should be lifted to keep wheels off the ground or turned monthly. The battery should be removed, fully charged, and stored in a cool, dry place. Special care is needed for matte colored parts, windshield, and sidebags. Strong acidic cleaners, high-pressure washers, and abrasive polishing compounds should be avoided.
