Overview

This document is the owner's manual for the Yardworks 20V 1.5A Fast Charger, model CHL82000-1, designed for use with Yardworks 20V batteries.

Function Description

The Yardworks 20V 1.5A Fast Charger is designed to quickly charge Yardworks 20V Lithium-Ion batteries. Its primary function is to provide a reliable and efficient power source for recharging these specific battery packs, ensuring they are ready for use with compatible Yardworks tools. The charger is engineered to be user-friendly, with clear indicators for charging status and safety features to protect both the battery and the user.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Input: 100-240V, 50-60Hz, AC Only, 0.8A Max
  • Charging Voltage: DC 21V
  • Charging Current: 1.5 AMP
  • Net Weight: 0.42 LBS
  • Compatible Batteries: Specifically designed for Yardworks 20V Lithium-Ion batteries, including BL82120-1 (2.0Ah Battery Pack) and BL80204-1 (4.0Ah Battery Pack).
  • Cord Length: 25ft, 50ft, 100ft options available, with 16 AWG wire size for all lengths.
  • Amperage Rating (on face plate): 2.1-3.4A.
  • Safety Certifications: TÜV Rheinland certified, indicating compliance with relevant safety standards. It also carries the BC (Battery Charger) symbol, signifying compliance with California Appliance Efficiency Regulations.

Usage Features

The charger features clear LED indicators to communicate the battery's charging status:

  • Constant Green (No Battery, Power is On): Indicates the charger is plugged in and ready.
  • Constant Red (With Battery, Battery is Charging): Shows that a battery is actively being charged.
  • Constant Green (With Battery, Battery is Fully Charged): Signals that the battery has reached full charge.

The manual emphasizes several important instructions for safe and effective use:

  • Battery Insertion: To charge, slide the battery pack into the charger.
  • Battery Removal: To remove, press down on the battery pack to disengage it from the charger.
  • Charging Time: A minimum charge time of 80 minutes is required before the battery pack will become slightly warm to the touch while charging. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.
  • Temperature Considerations: Do not place the charger in an area of extreme heat or cold; it will work best at normal room temperature. When the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger from the power supply and remove the battery pack.
  • First Use: Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged. Several cycles (operating tool followed by recharging batteries) are needed for them to fully charge.
  • Hot Battery: When using a tool continuously, the battery pack will become hot. Users should let a hot battery pack cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge.
  • Power Supply: Ensure the power supply is normal household voltage, 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only.
  • Cord Management: Do not abuse the cord; pull by plug body rather than cord when disconnecting charger. Make sure the cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
  • Extension Cords: If an extension cord is absolutely necessary, use of improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If an extension cord must be used, make sure:
    • A. That pins on plug of extension cord are the same number, size and shape as those of plug on charger.
    • B. That extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition; and
    • C. That wire size is large enough for AC ampere rating of charger as specified.
  • Storage: Do not store the tool and battery in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 104°F (40°C), such as outside sheds or metal buildings in summer.
  • Cleaning: Do not incinerate the battery, even if it is severely damaged or completely worn out. The battery may explode in fire.
  • Battery Disposal: Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes into contact with your skin, wash immediately with soap and water, then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar. If liquid gets in your eyes, flush them with clean water for at least 10 minutes, then seek immediate medical attention.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides guidelines for maintaining the charger and battery:

  • Servicing: When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other part may create a hazard or cause product damage.
  • Cleaning: Do not attempt to modify or create accessories not recommended for use with this charger. Any such alteration or modification is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious personal injury.
  • Chemicals: Do not let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc. come in contact with plastic parts. They contain chemicals that can damage, weaken or destroy plastic.
  • Storage: Do not expose the charger to rain or snow or other wet conditions.
  • Inspection: Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by the battery charger manufacturer may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  • Troubleshooting: If the charger does not charge your battery pack under normal circumstances, contact customer service at 1-800-633-1501.
  • Disposal: Do not dispose of the battery charger with household waste. It should be recycled or disposed of according to local regulations.

The manual also includes a warranty policy:

  • 2-Year Limited Warranty: Covers defects in materials and workmanship for personal, household, or family use.
  • 2-Year Limited Warranty on Batteries and Chargers: Covers defects in materials and workmanship for personal, household, or family use.
  • Exclusions: Warranty does not cover normal deterioration, damage from misuse, abuse, lack of maintenance, or unauthorized repairs. It also excludes damage caused by cold, heat, rain, excessive humidity, or other environmental extremes.
