Overview

This document is a manual for the YOKOTA YX-3000 Impulse Wrench, providing essential information for its installation, operation, maintenance, and safety.

Function Description

The YOKOTA YX-3000 is an impulse wrench designed for tightening processes on threaded fasteners. It operates as an air-powered tool, requiring connection to a compressed air system. The tool's design emphasizes efficient and precise fastening, with features aimed at minimizing operator discomfort and ensuring safety during use. Its impulse mechanism provides controlled torque delivery, suitable for applications requiring specific fastening strengths.

Important Technical Specifications

The YX-3000 is manufactured by Yokota and conforms to the EN ISO 11148-6 safety standard. Key specifications include:

  • Square Drive / Hexagon: 3/4"
  • Bolt Capacity: 16-18 mm
  • RPM: 4700
  • Torque (Nm): 200 - 304
  • Air Consumption Full Load: 10.0 l/s
  • Air Consumption No Load: 20.5 l/s
  • Weight: 4.60 kg
  • Air Connection: PT 1/4"
  • Hose Diameter: 12.7 mm
  • mm A: 246
  • mm B: 40
  • Vibration Level: 3.9 m/s²
  • Sound Level: 80 dB(A)
  • Maximum Air Pressure: 6.3 Bar

The air system setup is critical for the tool's performance and longevity. It requires a branch pipe (1) connected to a main pipe (11) with a downward pitch of approximately 1:100 away from the compressor (2). The system should include a drain tap (3), a shut-off valve (4), a filter (5), a regulator (6), and an oiler (7) before the coupler (8) connects to the air hose (9). The air hose should be as thick as possible to ensure adequate air flow.

Usage Features

Before Taking into Use: Operators must read and understand the manual before installation, operation, repair, maintenance, or accessory changes. Only qualified and trained personnel should install, adjust, or use the tool.

Prior to first use, a few droplets of resin and acid-free oil (e.g., Red Rooster air tool oil, order no. Atlub) should be added to the air inlet, and the tool run free for a few seconds.

Before connecting the hose, ensure both the hose and quick coupler are clean by letting air run freely through them. It is crucial that the quick coupler and hose have a sufficient diameter; a hose that is too small can restrict airflow and impair performance.

The air pressure at the tool's inlet during operation must not exceed 6.3 bar. Exceeding this pressure can lead to unnecessary wear and damage. Conversely, pressure below 5.5 bar will result in power loss and increased wear/damage.

The compressed air quality must be high, meaning it should be clean and dry. This is best achieved using an air filter. The use of a complete FRL (filter, regulator, lubricator) unit is recommended. The oiler should be adjusted to deliver approximately 3 to 6 droplets per minute. The air hose between the oiler and the tool should not exceed 6 to 8 meters in length. For situations where a centralized oiler is feasible, it is recommended as it allows for less oil consumption (up to 80% reduction) and ensures perfect lubrication.

If the tool is to be stored for an extended period, it must be oiled by adding a few droplets of resin and acid-free oil into the air inlet and running the tool free for a few seconds.

Safety Precautions: Modifying the tool is strictly prohibited as it can endanger the operator. The manual must be accessible at all times. During operation, ensure no projectiles are generated, the workpiece is securely fixed, and the inserted tool or accessory is correctly mounted to prevent high-speed projectiles. The work area must be clear of dangerous circumstances for others. Always wear safety glasses appropriate for the operation's risk level. Avoid wearing rubber-coated or metal-reinforced gloves as they can become entangled in rotating accessories. Keep fingers clear of the inserted tool or accessory. Never hold the drive shaft, socket, bit, or inserted/mounted tool/accessory while rotating. For impact and impulse wrenches, only use impact sockets as specified in the Action catalogue. Ear protection is recommended as per employer instructions or occupational health and safety requirements. Implement countermeasures to keep noise levels as low as possible. Disconnect the air supply before changing inserted tools, accessories, performing repairs, or when the tool is not in use. Regularly check the mounted tool or accessory for damage to prevent injuries from breakage and flying fragments. Keep rotating parts away from any body part. Wear hairnets for long hair and suitable clothing to prevent entanglement. Only use manufacturer-designated accessories for this tool. Ensure no unauthorized persons are in the working or danger zone. The minimum age for operating this tool is 18 years. Keep away from whipping hoses; immediately shut down the air supply if a hose is damaged or comes loose. Maintain a clean and organized workplace to prevent trips and falls. This tool is not designed for use in potentially hazardous areas and is not insulated against electric power. Wear appropriate clothing for comfort. Divert cold exhaust air away from hands and body. Be aware that air under pressure can cause injuries; never direct exhaust air towards yourself or others. Do not use quick-change couplings directly on the air inlet; assemble at least 50 cm of air hose with a shock-resistant hose joint. If universal twist couplings (claw couplings) are used, ensure lock pins are mounted. Do not exceed the maximum air pressure indicated on the tool. Never carry the tool by the air hose. Use a safety helmet for overhead work. Be aware that the workpiece, inserted/mounted tool/accessory may become hot during operation, causing burning injuries. Only use air hoses designed for the specific pressure and resistant to it. Always use "safety quick change couplers."

Accessories: Only use accessories and consumables designed for this tool. Select accessories that minimize noise and vibration; replace them if noise/vibration increases. Avoid worn or ill-fitting impact sockets or extensions, as they increase noise and vibration. For impulse wrenches, "sleeve drive" sockets are recommended to minimize noise and vibration. Ensure the inserted/mounted tool/accessory is properly held by the retainer, and the retainer is in good condition. Never use the tool without a retainer, as this can cause high-speed projectiles. Use accessories/tools according to manufacturer specifications.

Using the Tool: Familiarize yourself with the workplace and surrounding area before use. Always adhere to safety regulations for the work area. During operation, wear suitable gloves to protect against crushing, impacts, heat, vibration, cuts, and abrasions. The operator must be able to handle the tool's size, weight, and power. Be prepared for normal/abnormal movements/forces generated by the tool. Maintain body balance and secure foot placement. Release the lever/trigger if the air supply is interrupted. If experiencing discomfort (pain, throbbing, aching, tingling, numbness, burning sensation, stiffness) in hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other body parts, stop using the tool, inform your employer, and consult a qualified health professional.

Maintenance Features

Regularly check the tool for loose bolts, screws, or parts. If power loss occurs, the tool must be repaired. Only trained and qualified engineers are authorized to adjust or repair the tool. If the tool has a silencer, ensure it is working properly; a damaged silencer must be replaced. When disposing of the tool, follow local regulations for recycling and do not discard it in normal waste bins.

Intended Use: The tool is specifically designed for tightening processes on threaded fasteners. Any other use requires a risk assessment by the employer/user. Damages resulting from not following the manual, incorrect use, or improper repairs are not covered by warranty, and the manufacturer assumes no responsibility. The manufacturer reserves the right to make technical improvements without prior notification.
