DESCRIPTION

The HRA Series condensing unit is the outdoor part of a ver-

satile system of air conditioning. It is designed to be custom

matched with one of UPG’s complete line of evaporator sec-

tions, each designed to serve a specific function. Matching

Air Handlers are available for upflow, downflow or horizontal

applications to provide a complete system. Electric Heaters

are available if required. Add-On coils are available for use

with upflow, downflow or horizontal furnaces and air handlers.

FEATURES

• QUALITY CONDENSER COILS - The coil is constructed

of enhanced copper tube and aluminum fins.

• COIL PROTECTION - Coils are protected from damage by

a polymer mesh applied between the coil face, and a PVC

coated steel coil guard.

• PROTECTED COMPRESSOR - The compressor is inter-

nally protected against high pressure and temperature.

This is accomplished by the simultaneous operation of

high pressure relief valve and a temperature sensor which

protects the compressor if undesirable operating condi-

tions occur. A liquid line filter-drier further protects the

compressor.

• DURABLE FINISH - Cabinet is made of pre-painted steel.

The pre-treated flat galvanized steel provides a better

paint to steel bond, which resists corrosion and rust creep.

Special primer formulas and matted-textured finish insure

less fading when exposed to sunlight.

• LOWER INSTALLED COST - Installation time and costs

are reduced by easy power and control wiring connections.

Discharge line heat exchanger knockouts are provided, if

required. Available in sweat connect models only. The unit

contains enough refrigerant for matching indoor coils and

15 feet of interconnecting piping. The small base dimen-

sion means less space is required on the ground or roof.

• TOP DISCHARGE - The warm air from the top mounted

fan is blown up away from the structure and any landscap-

ing. This allows compact location on multi-unit applica-

tions.

• LOW OPERATING SOUND LEVEL - The upward air flow

carries the normal operating noise up away from the living

area. The rigid top panel effectively isolates any motor

sound. Isolator mounted compressor and the rippled fins of

the condenser coil muffle the normal fan motor and com-

pressor operating sounds.

• LOW MAINTENANCE - Long life permanently lubricated

motor-bearings need no annual servicing.

• EASY SERVICE ACCESS - Fully exposed refrigerant con-

nections, a single panel covering the electrical controls

and the molex plug in the control box connecting the con-

denser fan, make for easy servicing of the unit.

• SECURED SERVICE VALVES - Secured re-usable ser-

vice valves are provided on both the liquid and vapor

sweat connections for ease of evacuating and charging.

• FACTORY TESTED - to verify system operation and con-

trol functioning before shipment.

The HRA Series condensing unit is the outdoor component of a versatile split-system air conditioning system. It is designed to be custom-matched with a range of Upflow, Downflow, or Horizontal evaporator sections from UPG's product line, each tailored for a specific function. Matching air handlers are available for various applications, and electric heaters can be added if required. Add-on coils are also available for use with Upflow, Downflow, or Horizontal furnaces and air handlers.

1 Phase Models: HRA018S78 through HRA036S78 (1.5 to 3 nominal tons).

Usage Features:

Quality Condenser Coils: Constructed with enhanced copper tubes and aluminum fins for efficient heat transfer.
Coil Protection: A polymer mesh is applied between the coil face and a PVC-coated steel coil guard to protect against damage.
Protected Compressor: The compressor is internally protected against high pressure and temperature through a high-pressure relief valve and a temperature sensor. A liquid line filter-drier provides additional protection.
Durable Finish: The cabinet is made of pre-painted steel with a pre-treated flat galvanized steel base for superior paint adhesion, corrosion, and rust resistance. Special primer formulas and a matted-textured finish ensure less fading from sun exposure.
Lower Installed Cost: Easy power and control wiring connections reduce installation time and costs. Discharge line heat exchanger knockouts are provided (if required, for sweat connect models only). The unit comes pre-charged with enough refrigerant for matching indoor coils and 15 feet of interconnecting piping. Its compact base dimensions require less space for installation.
Top Discharge: The fan is top-mounted, blowing warm air upwards and away from the structure and landscaping, allowing for compact multi-unit applications.
Low Operating Sound Level: Upward air flow carries normal operating noise away from living areas. A rigid top panel isolates motor sound, and isolator-mounted compressor and rippled condenser coil fins muffle fan motor and compressor operating sounds.
Easy Service Access: Fully exposed refrigerant connections, a single panel covering electrical controls, and a Molex plug connecting the condenser fan simplify servicing.
Secured Service Valves: Re-usable service valves are provided on both liquid and vapor sweat connections for easy evacuation and charging.
Factory Tested: Each unit is factory tested to verify system operation and control functioning before shipment.

Maintenance Features:

Low Maintenance: Permanently lubricated motor-bearings eliminate the need for annual servicing.

Accessories:

Compressor Blanket: Designed to further reduce normal operating sound.
Hard Start Kit (Single Phase Units): Provides the necessary starting torque for units using a thermal expansion valve.
Outdoor Thermostat (2TD06700124): Consists of an adjustable outdoor thermostat and relay in a vented enclosure. It provides additional second-stage control of supplemental resistance heat (Balance Point Control).
