Overview

This document is a user manual for a Zanussi ZBT23420SA Fridge Freezer. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, daily use, care, cleaning, troubleshooting, and technical specifications.

Function Description:

The Zanussi ZBT23420SA is a fridge freezer designed for household and similar applications. It features a refrigerator compartment for storing fresh food and a freezer compartment for freezing fresh food and storing frozen and deep-frozen food for extended periods. The appliance operates automatically, with temperature regulation managed by a temperature regulator. It is equipped with an internal light for visibility and movable shelves and door shelves for flexible storage. The refrigerator compartment includes an automatic defrosting system, while the freezer compartment requires manual defrosting when the frost layer reaches a thickness of about 3-5 mm.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Dimensions of the recess:
    • Height: 1446 mm
    • Width: 560 mm
    • Depth: 550 mm
  • Rising time: 20 hours (This refers to the time the appliance can maintain safe temperatures in the event of a power failure).
  • Voltage: 230-240 Volts
  • Frequency: 50 Hz
  • Refrigerant: Isobutane (R600a), a natural gas with high environmental compatibility, which is flammable.
  • Climate Class: The appliance is suitable for installation in dry, well-ventilated indoor areas corresponding to the following ambient temperatures:
    • SN: +10°C to +32°C
    • N: +16°C to +32°C
    • ST: +16°C to +38°C
  • Freezing Capacity: The maximum amount of food that can be frozen in 24 hours is specified on the rating plate.
  • Insulation: The insulation foam contains flammable gas and is ozone-friendly.

Usage Features:

  • Switching On/Off: The appliance is switched on by plugging it into a wall socket and turning the temperature regulator clockwise to a medium setting. To switch off, the regulator is turned to the "0" position.
  • Temperature Regulation: The temperature is automatically regulated. Users can adjust the temperature regulator to lower settings for minimum coldness or higher settings for maximum coldness. A medium setting is generally recommended, but the optimal setting depends on room temperature, door opening frequency, food quantity, and appliance location.
  • Movable Shelves: The refrigerator walls have runners, allowing shelves to be positioned at various heights.
  • Positioning Door Shelves: Door shelves can be adjusted to accommodate different-sized food packages by pulling them out and repositioning them.
  • Freezing Fresh Food: Fresh food should be placed in the bottom compartment for freezing. For faster freezing, the temperature regulator can be set to higher settings. The freezing process takes 24 hours, during which no other food should be added.
  • Ice-cube Production: The appliance includes trays for making ice cubes. Users should fill these trays with water and place them in the freezer compartment. Metallic instruments should not be used to remove ice trays.
  • Thawing: Frozen food can be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature. Small pieces can be cooked directly from frozen, though cooking time will be longer.
  • Storage of Frozen Food: For optimal performance, commercially frozen foodstuffs should be adequately stored by the retailer and transferred quickly to the freezer. The door should not be opened frequently or left open for extended periods. Once defrosted, food should not be refrozen.
  • Hints for Refrigeration:
    • Meat should be wrapped in polythene bags and placed on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer, stored for only one or two days.
    • Cooked foods and cold dishes should be covered.
    • Fruit and vegetables should be cleaned and placed in the dedicated drawer(s).
    • Butter and cheese should be in airtight containers or wrapped in foil/polythene bags.
    • Bottles should be capped and stored on the door bottle shelf or bottle rack.
    • Bananas, potatoes, onions, and garlic should not be kept in the refrigerator unless packed.
  • Hints for Freezing:
    • Freeze only top-quality, fresh, and thoroughly cleaned foodstuffs.
    • Prepare food in small portions for rapid freezing and easier thawing.
    • Wrap food in airtight aluminium foil or polythene.
    • Avoid contact between fresh and already frozen food.
    • Lean foods store better and longer than fatty ones; salt reduces storage life.
    • Water ices consumed immediately after removal from the freezer can cause freeze burn.
    • It is advisable to mark the freezing date on each pack.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodic Cleaning:
    • The inside and accessories should be cleaned regularly with lukewarm water and neutral soap.
    • Door seals should be checked and wiped clean to ensure they are free from debris.
    • The appliance should be rinsed and dried thoroughly.
    • If accessible, the condenser and compressor at the back should be cleaned with a brush to improve performance and save electricity.
  • Defrosting the Refrigerator: Frost is automatically eliminated from the refrigerator evaporator. The defrost water drains into a special container over the motor compressor, where it evaporates. The defrost water drain hole in the refrigerator compartment channel must be periodically cleaned to prevent overflow.
  • Defrosting the Freezer: The freezer should be defrosted when the frost layer reaches 3-5 mm thickness.
    • Switch off the appliance or unplug it.
    • Remove stored food, wrap it in newspaper, and place it in a cool area.
    • Leave the door open and insert a plastic scraper in the bottom center, placing a basin underneath to collect defrost water.
    • To speed up defrosting, place a pot of warm water in the freezer compartment.
    • Once defrosting is complete, dry the interior thoroughly.
    • After three hours, reload the food.
  • Replacing the Lamp:
    • Disconnect the plug.
    • Remove the screw and then the lamp cover.
    • Replace the lamp with a new one of the same power, specifically designed for household appliances (maximum power indicated on the lamp cover).
    • Reinstall the lamp cover and tighten the screw.
    • Reconnect the plug and ensure the light comes on.
  • Closing the Door:
    • Clean the door gaskets.
    • Adjust the door if necessary (refer to installation instructions).
    • Replace defective door gaskets by contacting an Authorized Service Centre.
  • Door Reversibility: The manual provides detailed steps for reversing the door, including loosening and removing pins and hinges, repositioning components, and reattaching the door. This operation is recommended to be done with another person.
